Whats the best way to check for piston slap and worn ends besides a complete strip down ? Can the Big ends be checked by seeing if there is up and down movement on the rotor. Trouble with two strokes is everything on them rattles anyway !!!!

L/H main can be checked by inspecting flywheel for play.
Big end can be checked by up and down movement in conrod (requires strip down).
Piston slap, impossible to diagnose without checking pistons for marks.

Arrrrgh, I got that rumbling vibe/noise in my LC lately. I only hear/feel it on very low RPM's. I am pretty sure it is the left hand main bearing. Very annoying! When I put that engine together, (not long ago) the bearings, particularly the one near the flywheel, felt perfectly allright even though it was a used one. I guess these bearings can hold up for years and years, but WHEN they start to go, they go fast as hell. The bitter lesson of not using old bearings even though they feel perfectly fine and has 0 vertical play. PS: Nope I'm not driving the LC now, I think this rumbling vibe can chew up the bearing seats inside the cases in no time, (and the case number is matching the frame number so I don't want to make the cases a big paper weight) so the old girl is temporarily pensioned.
