The petrol tap on my 4L0 is so F*#~'ing stiff i can just get it to the ON position and only to the RESERVE with a pair of pliers. Is it worth getting a refurb kit for it or is it better to just replace the bloody thing?.
Any advice much appreciated.
thx

There aint much in there, so maybe a refurb kits the cheapest option. Does Norbo not sell em?

Whats stopping you taking it apart for a peek ? clean and lube, if that fails you have lost nothing

Most likely the seals have gone brittle, have used the ypvs rebuild kits twice and had no problems so would assume the lc ones to be as good.

I cleaned and lubed my tap last year and it was fine up untill this weekend, now I cant move it even with pliers, just in case it snaps off, so clean and lube is a short term fix.
Anyone got a mod for the tap, to make it more reliable, on Alex's forum there used to be a thread on a mod but now gone.
Would rather keep my existing tap, as its original, rather than fit a pattern part.

Inside the tap is a tapered nylon/plastic cone, hollow with two holes which divert the fuel from main or reserve to the bowl, this seals against the sides of the tap housing. This was absolutely solid and not able to be turned by hand, I finally managed to pop it out with compressed air, looked at the sides on the cone and its scored and pitted and this has caused the cone to sieze. I have put a little bit of T cut on the bore and spun the cone round a few times to try and polish out the marks, this was OK, but still a few marks left, so used a bit of Solvo-autosol to do the same, looking good now, flushed out THOROUGHLY with petrol to clean it out. I also cut a single coil off of of the spring that puts pressure on the rear of the cone and holds it into the housing. Lubed the metal leaver and O-ring with a bit of Red grease and its back together, spins really freely, no binding at all, no leaks either, will let you know what happens.
