Refurbed my Valve (Brazillian) a while ago, all I did to the engine was powder coat barrels head and side casing fit new rings and water pump bearing. After rebuild it would get hot to the point of boiling over. Have fitted 3 new head gaskets (2 genuine) tried another thermostate (used) and run it with no stat, a mates radiator new temp sender(landrover). Have had the cover off water pump and impeller is turning and can`t be stopped by hand. Last time fitted pattern gasket and left to tick over for ages, temp remained normal. took it out for a blast and at about 90 mph it blew the top off the expansion tank and soaked me. Starting to piss me off now. any help or suggestions will be gratefully noted and tried. Nigel.

Had the same problem years ago, head just wouldn't seal.
Finally worked by slackening base bolts then tightening head bolts before retightening the base ones.
Best check the head is flat though.
