OK, I put it to the Forum collective for advice. Went out today for the first time in ages and........ 1. The right hand pot is smoking excessively. Had the plugs out mid-ride and they were both oily-ish (cant do a plug-chop as it is being run in!) It is running the oil pump but I don't think that is the problem as I did 60 odd miles and if it was going to seize then it would have done it it the first 10 or so yes? 2. It also kept getting close to the red on the temp gauge on quite a few occasions but after a half hour break coming back over the Snake it stayed in the sweet spot all the way back. 3. The speedo was behaving really badly (not reading true speed) before packing up altogether. The cable was intact (its brand new) and after a check with a drill it never even moved the needle. A few other niggles aside it was running sweet as a nut.

right hand pot smoking badly is usualy crank seal isnt it? speedo's probably f**ked! temp due to hot weather. HTH! Hope not, its only done about 60 miles since Norbo rebuilt it! I have made up a small batch of premix and ran the bugger with the autolube pipes off and the pump turned up full to see if is pumping, plenty of the slippy stuff coming out of both pipes and the oilway in the carb is clear. Could this be because of the damage before the rebuild? It was the R/H pot that melted the hole in the piston.

Had speedo apart and it seemed to be some gunk stopping the needle from turning.
It would seem that the pump is struggling to supply oil to the l/h carb when the pipe is connected. If I run it wit the pipe off it pumps freely.
I have checked the oilway and it is clear so I am now at a loss as to why it is doing this!

This is really pi**ing me off!!!!
The oil pump seems to be pumping but there are bubbles in the line!!
They do move towards the carb and dance about in the line as if oil is flowing. Should I be worried or just let it be? I have bled the pump but I fear this may be the norm as it had black oil line on before and now they are clear so is it just a case of its the fact that I can now see whats going on I am worring?
I do have an old pump, should I put that on and see if there is a difference or just leave it be?

Hi mate, there should be no air bubbles in the oil feed pipes if all is well. If your getting bubbles in both pipes, then it's got to be either pulling in air from the oil tank feed pipe, bleed screw washer or the pumps ng. If you've got a spare pump, i would be trying that if you can't find anything obvious. Things are never easy with these old girls .

Tried 3 pumps now and it seems that the l/h carb is literally sucking the oil from the pipe! I bled the pumps up the same and each time got the oil right to the end of the pipe at the carb end and as soon as I attach it to the carb it just sucks it from the line!! Its not doing this on the r/h carb so I'm at a real loss!?! Out of ideas. Poo!

i bet u the bubbles will be back......... ;D only joking m8 You jinxed it!!!! They ARE back!! Anyhoo, the speedo drive seems to have packed up. Anyone know why this may be? I have taken the wheel off and had a look at the drive locating thingys and all seems to be in order. So here I am again, asking you loons if fire/tai birds/bacon butties or new parts are the best option!
