The problem is that they all look good in photos, up close is different, don't get me wrong it wasn't a heap but there were a few bits, the fairing had had some previous repair work; some that you can see and lots that you can't, I think that most of the panels had been repaired or needed repairing, so I gradually got hold of all the bits I needed - good belly pan and mid sections, the tank had been recently done and looked good although it had some sort of cracking type effect under the lacquer, and with that being recent it made the rest stand out a tad. The engine has had the barrels replaced at some time in its life with 1UA barrels and there was an oil leak from the gear selector. The crankcases have never been split - still got all the original fasteners in place, so I decided to do a proper job, body work off, barrels back to 31K - got a few spare engines to choose from; and if I'm doing the barrels it seemed wise to replace the crank seals whilst the engine is out. I then looked at the frame and it had been sprayed previously and this was cracking everywhere so might as well do that as well, talk about in at the deep end Stripping it down revealed only a couple of issues that would have otherwise gone un-noticed, the block connector for one of the electrics had overheated and fell to pieces when I undid it, that was easy enough to repair, the wiring to the rear indicators had worn down to the wire where the seat had been rubbing against it and a couple of other bullet style connectors snapped off when I tried to undo everything, all repaired now though My aim is to return it to original spec as far as possible. I will leave the engine until last I think. Oh and I'm trying to take lots of pictures as I go along, mainly to assist in reassembling

Hi Gary, all sorted now mate, used some bumper spray to finish off the insides as they should have been If its worth doing might as well do it properly hey ;D Any tips anyone for the tank, been stood empty for a while whilst it was away being sprayed, came back with bits of crud in it have removed as much as I can get to - any precautions to take before filling with petrol, was thinking of putting an in-line filter in as well.

After many months, nearly a year now I've done some more............... She lives ;D ;D Had a fiddle with the carbs after a teething problem yesterday, put some fuel in the tank and watched helplessly as it pissed out of the overflow pipe. Stripped the carbs one at a time to find the problem, LH carb was fine, RH carb had a knackered float body seal, which caused the RH carb to fill with fuel then not stop filling - deep joy and fumes / petrol throughout the garage yesterday Anyway, sorted that plus added an in line filter and then put some new plugs in - that itself was a t**t to tighten them up, is there a short style plug socket that people use? Fuel to prime, checked for overflow - non - result, turned on ignition, pulled out choke and kicked it over - after about 20 kicks thought WTF Then looked at the kill switch I wonder - flick, kick and ring a ding ding. Gaz check your voice mail ;D ;D ;D There was me reading about all these people starting their fresh rebuilds, 1 or 2 kicks and it fires up thinking bollocks. Anyway dropped the tickover to 1K ish and let her run till warm, no leaks or mishaps so far, will re torque the head when cold, but it's looking good finally. ;D
