Anyone had any problems getting a back brake to work on a ypvs 31k? I have bleeded and bleeded it,there is nothing but clean fluid coming out and no air but no matter what the brake pedal just isn't there it just goes straight down with very little resistance ? Thanks in advance

I had the same problem on my 83 LC2 rear brake in that no matter how much I bled it it still felt spongy. I came across some old Yamaha service bulletins at an autojumble which had one on the LC2 ref spongy rear brake that says you get an air pocket in the rear calliper with the calliper in the normal position. So when you bleed it remove the rear calliper bolt, loosen the front one and pivot the calliper up so that the pad is still contacting the disc by approximately 30%. Tighten front bolt and bleed as normal. Replace rear bolt. Funny enough my brother had the same problem on his R1 after he put a braided hoses on the back ,fluid came out but the brake wouldn't firm up.We tried the above method and it worked. Hope this helps. Tone.

thanks for that advice, i will look into it. not sure where the caliper should be on a lc2 as mine is on a lc with metamex swinging arm so i presume its not in the right position. so do you think the caliper has to be lying like flat with the bleed nipple pointing straight up ?

Ok,tried all that,I have sucked a full bottle of the stuff through and still nothing, tried the master cylinder pipe and nothing happening apart from brake fluid going all over and ruining things I have had the pistons out and all new seals fitted, do you think it could be the problem?

Had a similar problem with a set of front calipers, eventually found the master cylinder seals were knackered, fitted new problem solved. OEB

Did you push the pistons in as far as they could go. if so this could be the problem.

Yep I would go with OEB, sound like master cylinder seals Could be a worn piston in the master. Hope you get it sorted soon mate Adam
