I have a YPVS and the clutch is not disengaging the drive, even though i have full lever operation - engine has been standing for 5 years plus. Anyone got any pointers to look for when i strip it down .

Strip and rebuild it is, noticed a slight water drip on the garage floor tonight, traced it to the water pump cover. Went to undo one of the pump cover bolts and yes you've guessed, the head snapped off . So side casing needs to come off now anyway - how i love my LC. Cheers for the help chaps.

Well chaps stripped the clutch down tonight. Clutch pressure plate could be seen moving in and out when operating the lever, but drive still engaged. Strip down revealed that someone before me had fitted an extra plain washer after number 3 friction plate. Rebuilt as Mr Yamaha had intended - x6 plain washers and x7 friction plates. Went to adjust the clutch release mechanism as described in the Haynes manual. The manual shows casing alignment index mark as a circle, which my casing has, but slightly further in there is a arrow index mark too - which one should i be using . Its taking all my cable adjustment just to align to the centre of the circle index mark - what cable should i be using with a LC / YPVS engine combination - are all YPVS cables the same - or is my cable just f****d. Going to borrow a vernier from work and measure the thickness of the friction plates and the length of the pressure plate springs to make sure they are Ok .

What you need to do is push the clutch operating lever on top of the crankcase with your finger to take up the freeplay. At this point the pointer on the end if the operating lever and the triangulated arrow index mark on the crankcase should line up. If they don't you have to loosen off the locknut in the centre of the clutch pressure plate and turn in or out the screw adjuster until the marks line up when you have taken up the freeplay as described above ,not forgetting to tighten the locknut when done.
