Cheers Dirtbag, lol, it was a right dog when i bought it, vitually up to mint standard condition, just need a new exhaust system cause when i fired it up(they are a right bas""" to kick) it literally obliterated the whole system fractured the downpipe in 3 places leaking like a sieve, might try to get it welded if not , a long wait me thinks for one to come along.

I remember them, I think they only came in blue didn't they That gadge from CMM refurbed an XT500 and got an NOS exhaust system from somewhere. Could be worth contacting the magazine.

Dirtbag, it is the original type rear light and in the right position, most people move them up to sit higher on the rear mudguardso they don't rip the no plate off, i want to keep it totally original, update on pipe, getting it plated and welded by a mate of mine should be back on friday night and gonna scare the shit out of my self over the weekend, goin out with a couple of mates who got wr's 450 they reckon they will leave me for dead, can't see it myself what do you guys and gals think?

i havent ridden one of the later 4 stroke dirt bikes, but i had a YZ 465 which was very similar to your IT 490...i think peoples a***holes will give out before you run out of power should be a great laff and im a bit jealous to tell the truth ...dont forget your camera mate

I think your mates will be in for a shock personally......yeah it may be old technology and outdated frame etc.....but I think your I T will lead the way for a while............2-strokes are always faster off the mark. Trying to keep the front wheel down will be your biggest hurdle. Have fun....but be careful mate

Hi folks, update! IT 490'S RULE THATS A FACT, in my case anyway, went out the lads on sunday trailing in an old quarry, there were 2 wr 450's and a ccm 510 also a dr400 it left them all for dead off the mark and 3rd gear roll on the ccm had me on top end just, i could'nt stop laughing allday , i was fighting in every gear to keep the bleeding thing from flipping this monster has bags of grunt , but, and a big but , the brakes are kack need to change or uprate somehow, me thinks this could be another project starting, i think it would be awesome has a backlane scratcher if i give it the supermotard look, what u think folks any suggestions.

i said it would be quick ;D...i reckon you've done such a nice job on it that you should leave it safely(?) in my garage and build another one...it would be a crying shame to bend it Having said that,im sure a front fork swap wouldnt be beyond you should you insist on riding it,get yourself a decent disc on it that way to tame the beast ;D
