Looks like a really great job you've made there, would love to have a test ride,I was also wondering about the cooling, head gaskets seem to be a constant battle on the standard bikes that would be my only worry ,do you bother with a thermostat?

That's a rite bummer ,my bike fell over in the back of my van on the way to the Nerdoc rally ,gutted for you, don't think the lost bolt is anything to worry about if it's an lc it could have lost some oil through the clutch push rod seal if it's been on its left hand side for a while.

Thanks for that lads thought that might be the case ,didn't want to rebuilb the top end really if it could be the valves as well ,seems like a waste of time but put against the extra experience of the new valves could be well worth the effort ,does anyone no the new valve stem measurements ,could have a look at that 1st?

My valves have been leaking oil between the barrels ,so decided to strip the top end to see if I could see the problem, the bushes don't look in very good condition so will replace them and the orange seals, but am wondering if the power valves need changing as well, they feel a little slack on the bushes but don't feel to bad with the seal on,does the stem on the valve wear down, valves have cleaned up good otherwise, cheers.

Dave,Sounds like another head gasket ,if you ride it for long enough it will over heat,I've had same problem with two valves this summer both different symptoms but both head gaskets in the end. chris.

Just checked with radiator cap off, water returns round system and comes back through bottom pipe just bellow filler cap which is the bypass off the cylinder head ,when temp gauge reaches just above half the water level rises to the very top of the neck to over flowing point ,which in turn sends water into the expansion tank ,the filler cap in marked 60,the pipe from the thermostat to the rad is also getting hot so I'm presuming the stat is opening, does this sound like head gasket leak, thanks Chris.

Yes that's what I mean ,when the bikes revved with the filler cap off the coolant comes back up and feeds back into the system through the bypass pipe that's just under the filler cap, which I thought was ok?

Lc2 is getting really hot in slow traffic and boils if ran for to long, water level ok,and returns in to radiator when tickover is raised, flushed out radiator last year just through precaution ,bike has just developed this annoying problem over the last couple of mouths, any ideas ?cheers.

Sorry for the post heading but just got off the phone to my mate Chris who lives in Newcastle ,last night he had his trusted and well used F2 and his near mint rd500 stolen, the f2 is reg D50 KJT had nearly 70k on the clock,he had just been on a good euro trip on it,the 500 isA538 MWD and has a thunder cat front end etc, don't suppose he will see either bike ever again, every thing has all ready been said on the people that do this sort of thing but it still make you sick, make sure all your bikes are secure as they can be lads!
