Whats the best for power on the 10w 125LC? I have an original 10w airbox (Both bits). It's had the lid drilled and element taken out but I was going to tape up the drilled bits and put in a k&n filter element into the airbox.
Or do I keep the k&n cone filter on it that came on the bike when I got it?
Cheers.

Standard filter, airbox with snorkel removed every time mate. If you have a pipe on it stick a 175 main jet in the carb and the job will be a good 'en ;D Adam

Be careful with removing the snorkel. I had an interesting chat with Bob Farnham today regarding airboxes, and he explained that you should leave them alone! Whilst removing the snorkel may increase air mass intake, it also reduces the air velocity passing through the carbs. The main consequence is loss of midrange apparantly, so while it may feel quicker as the band moves up the rev range, the reality is probably quite different!

In 1985 when I had my MK1 I never had an airbox and never had any engine running problems. I ran an S&B, small can micron, hi tech reeds and ledar kit. Personally I would be amazed if a std airbox would have made this run any better. It was awesome All my mates ran the same too i.e. no airbox.

Where would I get a ledar kit for a 1gu carb? What kinda jet should I have if I'm running a Micron, 10w engine, norbos reed space, boysen reeds, 1GU carb and standard airbox w/ snorkel? It's 155 at the minute I think...

1GU is the YPVS. I think you said you had a 10W engine so you ideally want a unrestrictrd carb.
My setup I referred to was 12a with a ledar kit. Thes are really hard to get hold of now.
You can run either with a std airbox but for a pod filter you will need to up jet and increase 2t oil.

I've always had cone filters on all my 2 strokes, I've just never ran a std airbox so I'm unsure of what is required. I've a 10w carb here too, just this bike came with the 1gu on it and supposedly it went really, really well.

I think induction noise can give you the idea that you're going faster, or accelerating faster than you actually are!

ive had 3x rd125lc and a tzr125 2rk and all 4 bikes i played about with different airfilters to find standard airbox was the best all rounder especialy on my 125lc's i had. saying that my big bored 125lc did have a foam pod type filter and ran well but it only got used on nice warm dry days so i wouldnt know how it would work in the rain.

I think induction noise can give you the idea that you're going faster, or accelerating faster than you actually are! The guys on other 125lc's I went past in the 80's didn't mention that to me The only time I had a problem with my pod filter getting wet was when I jet washed the bike . Other than that I used it every single day for work in all weather and it never let me down.

Does norbo stock the Pipercross elements for the standard airbox?
