aye, thats the other toy... the `61 P.O.S.. here seen entering Brunchen1 on the 'ring. 1961 Austin Mini 7 with 87bhp (then a 25bhp shot of Nitrous on top) - nearest thing you can have to a motorbike but stay dry when it rains!

Your LC looks great, have you still got the aircooled ? looks very like my old one with the monoshock conversion. Might see you down at the Forth bridges during the summer as i am from falkirk.

gday, i noticed on the kick starter side of the picture of your motor is missing the plate the goes from the top case to the bottom case near the deflector plate, the only reason i noticed is cause mines bloody missing, im sure i took it off, are they essential? see ya

If you mean the oil-pump cover, its just not fitted in that picture as I was having problems with the water-pump, so had it all in pieces.
Finally got the seat recovered, so only a couple of things to do , and Im off for an MOT

the part im talking about is part # 4L0-17471-00, its connects the upper and lower cases and also retains a bearing, it looks like i have to order one from the states, ive spent another hour or so looking ,i can remember making it all shiney and new looking but it has just de-materialised, see ya

Ah!
you had me in a bit of a panic there....
nope. I did fit that bit - the picture shows the engine before it was finally bolted together - that part wouldnt have gone on then as the cases werent pulled together properly. - I remember that part - mine was half-crusty from lying in the bottom of a box - I cleaned it up a fair bit before fitting it.
off out to the garage tonight to check a wheel and also try to get the seat-mounting lugs off the seat-base so I can finish the seat-cover.

well, took it for a wee ride tonight as it was dry!!! - just a couple of miles round the village and got it dirty riding through a big deep puddle, so had to wash it. its highlighted a couple of things - need to fiddle with the pilots - its wayyyy to rich, clutch is not 100% - it works ok, but is dragging and is really stiff to operate. FZR4003tj forks seem to be sprung and damped about right, the SV650 rear shock seems to be not far off either. something is not quite right with the forks, but I was going to strip them and fit new seals and check the bushes. its really willing - starts to hint at a lot of fun from 5k up, but really need to get a lot more miles on it first. its LOUD - a fair bit more than my aircooled was - think I need to go raid the old-mans stock of fibreglass mat for some packing (theres currently none!!) off fior the next 2 weeks,so should be able to get some more miles on it soon. happy as a pig in shite!!!!

Well, 29 miles on the motor now..... Clutch fixed by lubing the cable!! Forks may be a bit soft - I need to strip and rebuild them this winter anyway SV shock is deffo firm - may need to back the preload off to minimum fitted bigger pilots and main-jets, and it runs a lot better now - off the next 2 days, so should be able to get it much better soon. Sealed up the header to stub join with plenty of silicone - hopefully the bellypan will stay white now. brakes are taking their time bedding in - may actually just buy new discs as the ones Im using are pretty worn. tomorrow I'l try to get to 100miles if it isnt raining.

Further update before the winter-layup..
I think I'm nearly done!!
410 miles on the clock now.
The throttle didnt stick open on my in 30 miles in the freezing cold on saturday - there was however an ignition issue at one-point that cleared itself - need to check all the wiring over the next couple of months - it felt like something was shorting to earth.
need to fit the TZ clutch springs as the clutch just lets go as things get interesting at 8.5K.
deffo got a warped front disc - trying to find out which, but the drillings are making it awkward to get a proper runout measurement.
Over the winter I will strip the forks, fit new seals and bushes and oil, and repaint the legs.
need to clean the front calipers - machine or sand off the "triumph" logo from them, and repaint them a nicer colour (cant find a decent gold - so they will end up black)
and thats it!!
roll on next year being sunnier and warmer than this one, as if I am going to the NW200, I WILL be doing it on the LC.

I'd check the plates before fitting TZ springs.
Got standard plates and springs in my 385 and only slips a little until the oil is at full temp.
Springs tend to make the clutch heavy, some just fit 3. Strangely I think I have a set of HD springs that I didn't use, could split then with you.

Ive only got 3 anyway...
the plates are probably worn - they were the best of what came in the box.
I was only going to fit the three springs anyway
wheres the best place to buy plates (bearing in mind Im Scottish and fit the stereo-type for tightness!)

Probably just try the springs first, just don't try and buy a genuine gasket for the cover price is scary. Either that or try norbo/ebay/busters/M and P Steve

yup, looked at an EBC kit from the US of A, but Norbo's genuine ones are still cheaper, so if I need plates, I'll be purchasing (as usual) from him.
going to fit the springs tomorrow if I get the time.
