Gutted,
The Fox managed to get one of my chickens the other morning, i count them each night when i put them to bed, could have sworn i counted eight but got up the next morning to find seven still safely locked in and white feathers covering the garden (she was a light sussex) anyone got any ideas how to get rid of the fox? i have seen it in the garden since and it isn't even frightened of the dog.

Do any of you Chicken Keepers know if it is normal for a hen to start to Moult in January? she seems fine in her self and has even laid the odd egg but is going Bald on her breast, skin looks fine and there are new feathers coming through but she looks really scruffy

im getting chickens!!! what sorta house do ya keep them in? a neighbour has them in a 6 x 4 shed and a bit penned off at the front, but they do mess up the penned bit in a few days and it leaves it very mucky........is it a case of moving penned bit around or do you guys just let them roam free during day and put them in at night?if thats the case would they not just wander off to the pub or somwhere???

Hi Lcowner, I am fairly new to the world of chicken keeping, Butchers is your man for Clucky advice, but this is my house and pen, they are locked in here at night or when i am not in the house and they roam free when i am around, my pen stays in the same place all of the time which was proving very difficult to keep clean, but after a trying a few different ideas i have now put in a slightly raised floor made of ply which water can drain through then covered this with astroturf, so i can now hose it off as often as i wish, i also throw down wood chippings for them to peck and scratch in which gets hosed off when i do the fake grass, works a treat for me in this long narrow pen.

Lol, they seem to like it, i was worried this would be too small for 8 chickens when i first got them but when you look inside at night they huddle together in one corner and only use about 1/3 of the space, sometimes 3 of them squash into one nest box (there is 3 nestboxes)
