Interesting to see that the big bore RD was no faster than a piped and jetted one . Mine is geared for 85mph at the moment at 10,000RPM, but gets to 60 in about 7 seconds ;D with micron and 180 main jet. Nikkon (with same gearing and jetting) allows it to pull to 12,000RPM in top (about 95mph) but can't be doing the crank any good . Not as loud and less usable power also (all topend). So I am keeping that as the very last rd125lc Nikkon ever made with only 10 miles use on it ;D. They are much more usable when you have less top speed cause every gear has more bottom end. AND you can pull ridiculous wheelies ;D.

i like the fact none of the rd125lc's broke the 100mph barrior yet ever one that has owned one swears blind theres did over a ton lol mine used to read what would be 105ish (on the clocks) with the 175 kit so probaly about 90 odd mph with speedo inaccuracy.

Absolutely right, my current 10w 125LC will do 100mph on the clock everywhere which probably equates to a real 90mph ish. I think on average the speedo's are around 10% out which would make 90mph with 100mph on the clock. Also depends on tyre sizes and gearing obviously. I've got a mildly tuned X7 on std gearing and that'll do 110mph on the clock fairly easily and I've also read that to be doing a genuine 100mph on an X7 you need to see 110mph on the clock

my old rxs 100 would do 85 on the clock with a mildtune. i know someone who had a rs125 and he believes 115 on the clock apparently euates to 100 when he tested it against a car.

Looey, how the hell do you get your 125 to do 100 on the clock? Are you on standard gearing? I'm 9 stone and mine struggles to get 85 (10,000rpm) with the same set up as you but it has lower gearing (the guy before me converted to 520 pitch chain and sprockets for some reason). Could the drag from a bigger chain be slowing me down? Also what tires have you got? Could my super chunky B/T's be dragging the speed down also? My squish is 1.7 also . I was told that taking it down to 1.2 would give an extra 3 or so horse power. It gets on my nerves thinking about all the money I could spend trying to crack the elusive 100 on the speedo ;D

there may be something wrong with yours like maybe undergeared or poor compression as ive owned 3 rd125lc's and all have read 95-105 maybe even slightly more on the 175 i had. i remember i had a standard 10w import on a Q plate which was completly standard execpt a micron and that used to read 100mph regulary and wheelier better in 2nd than my mk2 that was 175cc
rather than spend any more money tuning it just make sure its set up 100% perfect, a dyno read out to see whats going on air/fuel wise maybe?

Looey, how the hell do you get your 125 to do 100 on the clock? Like twostroker says, sounds like something isn't quite right with yours . Could be gearing or your speedo reading unusually accurately ?, cos with std gearing and 10k on the clock in top I would've thought that would be around the 95mph mark but I haven't stared at my rev-counter when doing that kind of speed, I tend to look where I'm going ;D ;D I had a restricted 12A candy blue model brand new in 1984 (A598 SGT) and it was completely std other than an Allspeed, needle one clip richer and a Nippon Denso "U" groove spark plug. That bike would do 100mph on the clock 2-up (but it did seem faster than everyone elses for some reason). I found out cos my brother who's 3 years older than me didn't believe me how fast it was, so I took him out on the back, got 100 on the clock on a dual-carriageway and leant over so he could see the speedo for himself. He was shocked ;D ;D The 125LC I have now is an unrestriced 10W French import with an 11a carb (I've got and tried a 10W carb on it and it runs EXACTLY the same), 170 main jet, std needle position, Nippon Denso "U" groove plug and the Micron with the Sterling end can and H/D clutch plates and springs. Metzeler ME22 tyres std 2.75-18 on the front and bigger 3.25-18 on the rear and std 12A gearing 16/45 (I think). It's a fresh engine build so probably running as well as it could/should. Hope that helps

I think it is that it is under-geared then, piston and bore and crank only have 1000 miles on them and its been the same (85) since rebuilt. Compression is very good, carb is nos 10w with 180 main (I premix). Runs very well just revs very high in top with no top speed. Cron produces power from 6,000 to 9,500 rpm in lower gears. In top it pulls hard until 9,500 which is about 80mph. Then it takes an age to get to 85mph at 10,000rpm. So I can probably conclude that it is under-geared. Like I said it has a 520 pitch chain (instead of 420 standard) with a 50 tooth rear sprocket. The gearbox will be designed to work with fixed sprocket sizes. Its just wasting power away atm . Will update with a full speed pass video in the spring ;D Thanks allot chaps, I just can't wait for the summer

with a 50 tooth rear sprocket. , that'll do it, go back to std gearing 16/45 and you should be there !.
