Do these actually do anything?
Before my LC blew the head gasket and I first put on my Nikon, The power was very strong all the way to the red line.
However, the band didn't start until 7500rpm's
This is annoying because you have to rev the knacks off it in 4th gear to sustain 60mph.
Will a reed spacer help with this or are they good for nothing?

I machined a 8mm one for the TZR saw a 0.2bhp increase on the dyno, but the same flat spot was still there and it didn't effect where the power was so ive junked it. Made it hard to fit the air box etc. Cured the flat spot by changing to super unleaded though :S weird

I have herd that what fuel/oil you use can have an effect on performance You had any experience with lightened flywheels Sean? Also lol I have the issue of CMM with the feature on Gibson's dyno day. Didn't realise you and your tzr are in it lol. Did you pick up any tricks that I could put to use on my bike? Adam

Had two lightened fly wheels, one from NK racing and one home brewed special. Both shite lol, once they’ve been skimmed you need to also balance them, NK wasn't and was quite viby with no noticeable performance upgrade as it was only a "road one" The one i machined down was noticeable in terms of how quick it revved up but nothing you'd notice on the road/track. Now im running a standard weight one.
Best mod by far was when i had the head work done. 0.8mm squish o-ring re-machined combustion chamber etc. Piece of it broke off went down the barrel turned everything into a great big coolant pump and bent the rod. Not fun but it did crack the ton shortly before. Now running a Stan Stephens head 1.2mm squish feels just as quick tbh. The boyson reed valves made a big difference as well.
The barrel is a fast road tuned Mick Abbey one, with the crank cases flowed to match, enlarged the holes slightly for the oil feeds as well. The inlet where the reed valves sit has been polished as well just to take off the massive ridge that the TZR cases have where they join more that anything.
Done some carb work as well mainly just polishing the mouths and removing the burs and casting marks. Bored one out to 28mm but couldn’t get the slide to seal so was effectively a massive air leak and the bike would rev its conkers off on idle so scrapped that idea. Ive got an RG250 mikuni flat side built up ready for it, but bikes going away for the winter now as I caught site of a gritter truck and the salt reeks havoc on all the polished ally.
The air box has an open lid and a 2 stage piper cross filter, held in with the plastic gauze. Very very loud induction noise but sounds awesome once your on the move and runs really smooth from pulling away right up to 11,000rpm.
Only other performance thing is the pipe its running, it was made by a guy on the other RD forum for his race TZR and looking closely at it, looks close to a swarbrick. Really well made, feather light with the RGV carbon silencer.
Last time I had it on the rollers it put out 19.7bhp at the wheel so was chuffed with it, ran a 16.08 at Santa pod at 81.11mph……Roll on the 350 hybrid lol

Thanks alot Sean mate . I need to lay down all my options, I got my lightweight race pipe (nikon). Need to look into boysen reeds. While my head and barrel are off I might as well have them reprofiled with possibly a mild stan stephans tune. Will leave flywheel alone but have crank balanced anyway (as it vibrates quite alot). Might look into flat side carbs but will probs leave stock 10w one in (with some polishing). Where do you get the pipercross filters? because I might try one of them as well. Lastly, do you have any clutch problems? DO you have any cooling problems and do you use the yam induction bottle? Thanks again Adam

Yeah still use the YEIS chamber, i machined 4 spacers that sit on my heavey duty clutch springs, just compresses them a bit more, no clutch slip at all, standard plates in it and they've got around 5k on them now. Temp runs spot on sits around 1/2 on the gauge. Only time it went high was a parade lap at a local car/bike show but that was 3 miles at 5mph I always use a good quality coolant just piece of mind i guess. 10-30w fully synthetic castrol engine oil and runs 30-1 premix and a 220 main jet.
