Cost me a fortune these bikes, I tend not to do things by halfs! Meaning when I buy a bike I then start spending! O forgot to mention I am a perfectionist - kind of, mellowing with age!

Yes they vibrate like crazy but that was the appeal! They go like stink low down, not so much top end, but I didn't want an R1. It's a fun bike below 100mph. They sound even better with after market exhausts.

Remember me Norbo? Well I tend to try my best to keep my bikes as new as possible, although I ride in my spare time a fair bit when I can I must find time to clean and polish, just the way I am. I'm starting to do to my 500 what I did with my 350 - spend too much restoring it to mint!

My first bike was a new Honda MT5. Funnist thing on that bike was the exhaust coked up. One time out I was at the front of traffic lights on a flat road and the bike was so slow that up until I reached 25-30mph I couldn't shift a keen cyclist who was shouting behind me to hurry up as we pulled away from the lights! ;D
I then bought a new Honda NS125 F which at 17/18yrs old was my pride and joy. Gave the RD125's a run for their money but I always liked the dash of the RD125 + Allspeed exhausts + the bike in black with red lines! My NS was Gray/Red.
After those bikes I had a Honda CB250 4 stroke and then part ex to a RD350 F1 with bikini fairing. That was my last bike and sold it in 1990 ish.
After 18 years I went back to biking in July 2008 and bought the best and most expensive RD350 F2 I could find thinking the more you spend the better the bike. Bought from Shurrock Motorcycles in Preston my RD350R, travelled all day on train to get there with only a helmet. Got there about 4pm , took the bike around the lane for a test ride and bought it. Then bought the rest of my gear in the shop just before they closed and rode it back from Preston to Plymouth leaving at 5.40pm. Guess what - it emptied down but I was so proud at what I bought. Well, being a pefectionist within a month my bike was in a local garage having brake hose upgrades and loads of other stuff. 1 month and £800 later my bike was ready and not before time, the guy was so slow and I was so miserable not being able to ride it through August 2008. Anyways I soon realised that I wanted a 2nd bike because the 350 although fun was not the best bike for long distances plus I had a few problems, one being I blew a piston racing 4 strokes! I needed something more reliable.
That lead me to the BMW GS1200 adv. Bought that one in Nov 2008. Brilliant bike, suitable for most styles of riding and road conditions. However, during shortlisting for the BMW I tried a Buell Ulysis and it was a toss up between both bikes. The BMW won the day cause it was bigger and had more gadgets!
However, I couldn't get the Buell out of my system - the big V twin vibes and the thundering Thor god like sound & vibes. I also became very interested in the RD500. Never ridden it before just interested in it. Well being less than confident with spanners and the fear I would have to rebuild the engine sometime I decided to buy my 3rd bike which was the blue Buell. Financed that up and off I went. Now if that wasn't enough, two months later I went and bought the RZV500R after testing riding 2x RD500 & 1x RZV500. The RZV seemed faster whereas the RD500 seemed less exciting in the powerband even though the clock was reading 100mph it didn't feel exciting enough. But the RZV500 was completely different. In that powerband it felt like it was taking off - the way it should be. My first RD500 test ride was Fred's RD500. I travell on my GS to view that one. I was so in the zone I would have paid almost £7000 to buy it off ebay, until I test rode it then I had my doubts!
He allowed me to pull out of my bidding and someone bought it for the same price I bid so he didn't lose out = £5250. So I bought the RZV500, had it delivered, found one handlebar weight missing!!! Within a month, backing it out of the garage caught the bellypan on a security latch sticking up from the ground and tore the bellypan. At same time I had left bike on side stand and apparently you shouldn't do that because I now had petrol poring out of one carb! It fixed itself after sitting straight on a paddock stand for a couple weeks after than. Done about 500 miles in 13 months but the bike had mostly been unrideable because of the petrol leak, belly pan, fairing off, forks bottoming out etc. Now it's slowly coming together but I won't be able to afford a complete re-spray until next year.
So in one year I bought 4 bikes and have been paying for it ever since. Now almost broke but glad I've got them! The only bike I'm not so sure on anymore is my 350. Not because it isn't fun but I feel I've out grown it as my other ikes are so much bigger and faster in some respects. But without a word of a lie I've spent over £4000 on that bike buying i and restoring it and I would never see than money again!

I would cut off my right nut to own your bike collection sir. Please don't sell your 350 or 500, they are keepers for life
