now i'm not saying this what everyone should do but............for years now i've always paid my vat on time coz you don't want em on your back ! ! and even then i use the flat rate scheme where you charge 17.5% but only pay back at 9% anyway tax bills for the self employed......pay in jan and july as a sole trader.....the intrest they charge on late payments is very little and when they send you debt collection notice offer to pay a good chunk every month....they will accept as they have to accept any reasonable offer.....better in your pocket than theirs.....always pay the tax but ( within reason ) in your own time ie 2 or 3 months late and swallow the intrest....also this will not affect any credit score.....just gives you more time

the tax was down to buying and selling my house...here in spain when you re-morgage, it dont count for the tax man.i re-morgaged twice to rebuild the gaf,and then when sold had 70grand profit but only the first morgage counted so it looked to them like i had 105grand profit..complicaded stuff i was ignorant to and got stuffed for my lack of knowlege in these matters......tuff tits as they say...its only money guys......
