Hi all, Im new here, and loving it.... i have done a few bikes over the years, vf 750f, fzr 1000, kx 125, ns 125, xs 400, gsx 250 , and i have just finnished my GPX 600 ninja, So i guess this shows my age.....ok, ill come clean im 45, so i guess im perfect catchment age to have a certain need to do an RD. so i find myself with a European rd 350 lc ypvs f2...1986 with apparently 69bhp full power.....mmmmmmm we will have to see, left unloved on an alottment for about 8 years covered in some sort of animal hair coating, flat tyres, all rusting away.....i couldnt resist......ill have to sort a load of pics out. All the bike was there except the seat. all plastics looked like thay had been chewed by wild animals ?!?!?!?!, but the cans were in great knick and the engine moved freely,, alas no keys, my first goal was to get organised, after all this was going to be my first real FULL NUT AND BOLT restoration First tasks included getting ,A haynes manual, a yam workshop manual, any docs from the web on carbs, etc, finding any suppliers and clubs for parts, and obviously a forum to chat and communicate with like minded people and show them pics of new and shiney RD bits as they come together...because my wife tries to be interested bless her , but these bits are not shoes or handbags and interest is pretty low. i got some space sorted in the garage and made plans for a bike Autopsy table.....pretty cheap to make, with a set of 99p sell off wheels from ikea, some 2" angle (about £30 worth) some nuts and bolts and some welding time at my old workplace. 18 Free trays from the local fruit and veg market ,splash of silver paint ,the must have free stickers from a bike mag ,and im ready to roll. As i go, i am only sure i want to do this well, really well, not sure if i should go for a hybrid or stay mainly standard, all i know is i love the kenny competition yellow scheme, i also love USD forks and single sided swingarm look, i dunno, ill see as i go. i welcome feedback....its why im here. ill be sure to post a few pics of bikes i like, most of them will be owned by you guys out there...i only hope to live up to half the standards set by some of you guys and my mission is to post pics as i go. can anyone let me know how forgiving powder coating is on frames that have this much corrosion...after shot blasting, .do i have to smooth off this, do i have to grind out the bulk of the pitting, or will it cover? and can i apply a second coat if its a bit iffy ?

Blasting will get the rust off but i think before any painting you may have to have a good look at the frame incase it has holed and will have to get it welded thanks, surprisingly the frame is in good shape, it had loads of oil and grease over it all round the headstock and engine areas, its just the rear end really, but it is solid, i was more worried about getting a powder coat and it not looking smooth because of the pitted surface,

yes kenny i agree on that it depends what your looking for and i was comparing to other bikes of same era,ive owned well over 200 bikes and as a mecanic fixed and riden just about everything, the gpx saga and gpz600 were bad cause the exhausts didnt last a year, and very soft suspension and not that reliable either..where are they all now??but thats just my opinion,it dont realy matter who agrees or not ..thats why we write on here to voice opions cheers john.
