ive just got hold of a rd125mk1 im going to do a full rebuild am going to have to respray the petrol tank is it going to be better to strip it back to bare metal or just flat it back and spray it as i worried if i take it back to metal i could end up with a colander instead of a fuel tank

they could use a softer media like sand to remove paint

nitromors is the best option and wash down with plenty of water the paint will lift in seconds where as blasting can leave pitting , i found this out the hard way

I've Nitromorsed tanks, then got some course wire wool, put nitromorse on that and given it a good scrub, it helps the paint to lift!
My painter likes a bare metal tank, less likely to get reaction, and easier to get a good finish apparently!
