I got my F1 running for the first time for about a minute on Monday evening. And the carb on the left started to leak out the overflow so I turned the bike off. Before this I had stripped the carbs apart cleaned them both and checked the float height and it was 16mm so I set both of them to 21mm as per the manual. The only thing I did not touch was the float valve seat with the Oring. I ordered some carb repair kit from Norbo and I took the carbs off again today and replaced the float valve seat and put the float needle that came with them on but when I put the new ones in the floats were at 28mm on each carb so I set it back up to 21mm and put them back on the bike and it still leaks from the left carb. I am also filling the carbs up on a fuel bottle not with the tank so it is gravity fed could this make any difference?
I don't know what to do now as I replaced the part which I thought was the problem but it hasn't fixed it. So what is causing it to overflow as I don't have a clue?
Help much appreicated 👍

Silly but I’ll ask just in case
You are setting the float height with the gasket removed 🤔

I always try and fit the float/needle valves with the rubber tip, as I had similar problems to you, with this type, not sure you can still get the metal needle valves now. I also used to hang the aux tank from the roof joist, but now suspend it from the same height as the petrol tank, just to keep things as normal.

F1 and 31K carbs use a different needle valve kit than the F2 carbs, which is what all the carb kits provide I am afraid, that's your problem
when I overhaul F1 and 31K carbs for custoners I customise 2 valve kits to make one that works with them, its a faff, but does the trick and also means your float heights will be correct when the tab is pretty much on the flat and not bent

Not if the repair kits you have are for F2 carbs which come with slightly longer needle valves than the 31K carbs take.

Yes this caught me out too I overhauled my carbs and changed the needle and seat in the left hand carb and couldn’t get the float hight correct without the fuel level in the float bowl being wrong as already said it turns out that there are two types of needle and seat assy
