Hi All,
Be aware there is a spate of bike thefts in surrey ( im Sunbury) , i was woken by the police this morning as my garage had be broken into and my KLX250 stolen, i have security lights, cameras, garage defenders, they targeted my garage ( block of five garages not visible from the road.
Luckily the KLX was the least expensive bike (£2.5k tops) in the garage, i had only just finished restoring it ( 09 plate) and got it cheap so it stood me in about £1600, didn't even get to ride it.
If you are thinking of upgrading your security do it now , i was going to chain all the bikes together Saturday but too late now.
Neighbour called the police who attended within 10 mins and forensics are attending today.
It was 3 kids on electric bikes.
My sons mate had his R1 stolen from Staines a couple of days ago ( locked garage).
So i now need a new garage door and much better security, but it could have been much worse.
Mark

Sorry to hear this Mark I heard the other day that there were a lot of bike thefts going on around Scumbury and Trashford. A fella in Staines confronted a couple of lads on electric mountain bikes trying to steal his trailer, couple of weeks back. They threatened him with a machete There are a couple of cnuts from Stanwell that are a proper menace on these bikes - see them regularly as I walk to work. They are normally wheelinging across the A30 when they are on a red light - forcing road users on a green to swerve and brake hard to avoid them (really dangerous junction)- I cant wait for the day they misjudge it Dusty

I’m sorry to hear this too. Stories like this make my blood boil and knowing that in reality there appears to be no real consequences for the offenders 😡

Thanks lads, in a way i was lucky as i had moved the LC, the Dt50MX, the RS100 a couple of weeks ago, i could have lost the 750 Turbo and/or the DT175MX , the KLX was a cheapy and a sacrificial lamb so to speak and held no sentimental value and was brought to sell. On the positive side they didn't enter the house, no one was harmed and i needed a new garage door anyway Mark

How did they get through the defender? Did they show up on the camera or was it hooded kids.

How did they get through the defender? Did they show up on the camera or was it hooded kids. They folded the corners of the door up then lifted/bent the door up and over the defender ( next time one in each corner ) i even had a bar bolted to the bottom of the garage door. They had balaclavas/hoodies/ gloves. Mark

Oh that's awful to hear. I know there's a lot of that going on around us here but it still comes as a bit of a shock to hear about it. Like you said, nobody was hurt but I bet there's that feeling that your home has been invaded. Hope they catch the f**kers.
Alex
ps there are vids on YT with cops ramming bike thieves off. Might cheer you up a bit. I find it hilarious.

I'd love to get my bikes out onto the driveway more - it's very cramped for working in my tiny garage, but I always worry about who is driving/walking past scanning what you have got. So I keep them shut away. Saw a great vid online where a bike thief lost his fingers to a rusty looking axe and some very pissed off villagers - hand on a lump of wood and a few goes to remove the sticky digits. The thumb hanging off, and another go from, I presume, the bike owner, to remove it completely particularly amused me !! Vote me in, and I promise more of the same

in the past when someone tried to steal an R1 they may have been shot with an .22 air rifle , now i hear that people use a pick axe handle if they ever catch thieving cnuts. Top tip i use a pick axe handle as a lever bar, well worth keeping one to hand. Mark

A few months ago two lads on a stolen bike died when they crashed it. They nicked it from the industrial estate where I work. So karma does catch up with them sometimes. Hopefully before they managed to reproduce.

Sorry to hear this but thanks for sharing… Theft has been going on since beginning of time but one can’t help but feel we are experiencing a crumbling of both society and the punishments that are supposed to keep it law and orderly… needs fixing quick…

Like Newtons first law, standards go downhill unless there is an external force to prevent them. There seems to be very little external or internal force. Isn't that what's known as a 'moral compass'? The premise of 'The Purge' films is that if laws were suspended most of us would go out and commit crimes, basically it's only the threat of punishment that stops us doing it. For the majority it's not but the minority that need that threat is becoming bigger all the time.

I have a space outside the garage away from prying eyes at this house. At the previous house I used to tell the lad to wheel the MX bike straight off the trailer and into the garden to wash it. The less people know it's there the better. I used to see a guy regularly working on his bike outside the garage. His house was on the approach to a roundabout on the edge of a big council estate. I often used to wonder how many hundreds of people have clocked his bike and how many of those were low life thieving scum.
