Just building a set of calipers for my 350LC and currently sorting the slide pins and boots. The photo below shows the 3 types of boot I have in my possession, the two on the left were fitted 25+ years ago. I can't remember where I got them or why they were different, sure there was a good reason at the time. The middle one fits the caliper bracket best. The one on the right is from Yambits and will not fit in the caliper bracket as its to fat where it matters! So the question is; Do I need to go at the Yambits boots with a scalpel or does someone sell some that fit properly? Paul

The middle one looks like the 3JD boot that is said to be the fit now, I ordered some last week to see if they fit ok but they arent here yet.

Paul, I tried everything but ended up cutting the boots so that they fitted.

I left the boots fitted to the hanger and ran a drill through the inside as they were gripping the slider pin too much. I then applied silicon grease.

Pretty sure those are the ones that I bought when refurbishing my old 4L0 calipers. They worked well. One thing I did was to get the slider pins electroless nickel plated. ENP is very corrosion resistant and is naturally 'slippery'; in more technical terms the plating has good lubricity and has a low coefficient of friction.

Be very careful of aftermarket boots, if you get brake fluid and especially brake cleaner on some of those they can swell really badly, depends on what they are made from of course.

Thanks for the replies gents, much appreciated.
Jon, was the part number you were getting 3JD2591700? This part is a reasonable price from Yamaha at £3.61 each. Can you let me know how they fit when they arrive. From the parts photo on CMSL they look similar to those from Powerhouse Chrisg used.
If I can get something from Yamaha that works for a sensible price I would be very happy as aftermarket rubber parts often disappoints. Although to be fair Powerhouse have a good reputation and probably found a suitable rubber.
Mango, who did the ENP coating for you and do they take on small batches e.g. 2 pins?
Thanks again Paul

Paul, yes thats the ones.
I doubt very much that Powerhouse sells OEM boots, more like something aftermarket.
As you say they have a decent reputation, but i just dont know. Maybe ask them what material and if they are OEM?

The people I use are called FirmaChrome and they are in Sheffield. I take in small batches in person (although a bit more than 2 pins) and they do it for cash. In fact I was in there today. Where are you based?

I have the boots £8 a pair I used these when rebuilding my calipers a while ago, as the originals were a bit shonky. They fitted fine and seem to work well, no mods required.
