Can anyone recommend a good paint stripper... I've given Nitromors a go but feel like I'm wasting my time

What are you stripping ? If it is a petrol tank with a failed liner i found this handy more than a few times .

Yep. I have a gallon can of this and can confirm it's at least as good as Nitromors was when it actually could be described as paint stripper. The modern stuff is quite literally a waste of time. Mine went in the bin. It may have discoloured the paint.......slightly.

I used some Screwfix paint stripper on a clutch cover recently. Left it on for 3 hours instead of the recommended 1 hour. Just made it sticky 😩

Proper nasty paint stripper like they used to make is still out there but it aint't cheap. About £50 for 5l. Worth it though when you can wash your hands in Nitromors. Starchem etc...that's what you need.

One thing i never used to get a cheaper alternative for was paint stripper always used to get the best c " Nitromors " But they changed the formula to conform with rules then it was as crap as all the rest .

DCM - Dichloromethane, I think this is what they took out of Nitromors. Anyway it strips paint and will melt the soles of your shoes.

Paramose is as good as you can get, Pro use only lol We were given the tin of it by our painting contractors. They painted the inside of some stainless cable transits when we had masked them off with bolted plates. They actually took the plates off to paint them! They gave us the paint stripper so we could remove the paint. Our guys refuse to use it because one of the symbols on the tin represented "may cause cancer". Someone would have been ok to take it home for use in the garage so I made sure it was me. I remember proper Nitromors had difficulty with powder coating, not this stuff 😀

The magic ingredient is MEK and is only available to the trade only. There was a guy on EB but would only sell if you had a company letter head. 😠

MEK is Methyl Ethyl Ketone, it’s good for stripping epoxy paints
It’s also highly carcinogenic
You’d probably have a better chance of finding a di-chloro-methane based stripper

We used it a lot at work with the right type of ppe . After reading a news letter of how a chap from a sister company got some in a cut on his finger which turned Nasty . This resulted in him losing his hand, the stuff in on stores vanished ,which was nice .
