Have you got a link to the bike you mention ?
Do you mean this bike in the article painted Yamaha Yellow/Black/White ? www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/scottish-news/tt-motorbike-belonging-scots-flying-28316462If so, their are quite a few differences .

Thanks for that Dusty From what I can see a few things are different from photos I can see on "interweb thiny" from when Steve rode F2 at TT. However race bikes had a very hard life and some parts needed to be changed. So Fairing has been changed as it looks like it was originally an Armstrong style fairing (look around the forks) Different seat unit, but these are just minor things.
But the main things are :-
The Exhausts have been changed as they should have the internal type stingers and the large belly sticks through the lower fairing, (as in the photo below similar to the Len Manchester design on their F1 & F2 bikes).
The Front disc is different and it should have 2 discs. Swingarm on "left" looks to have been braced not on original bike, unfortunatley I cant see a good photo of right side of steves bike at moment, to compare to the bracing seen the bike for sale. This is before you start to look further at the bike!
It all depends on how accurate you want the to be. Its not a lot of money for a nice bike, but I would be asking a few questions about it, if it was me.
Best regards Johnny C.

Built and sold to hizzy doesn't mean that he rode it ? Great piece of history all the same ! Would be nice to have in a collection if you had the money though

From the paperwork looks like it was retired in 86 and then rediscovered (possibly with half the bits missing) and built up again a decade or so back.
But... provenance is everything, I think Id like to see some real paperwork that has a frame number or something on it to prove it related to this frame before parting with a lot of cash... not that its silly exy for what it is really, but right now its just an old race bike thats a whole and runs etc.
That said, its a nice bike that looks like a race bike, not just the style but the way its been done etc.
But it would be nice to know what its history really is. While race machines change over time, as Johnny alludes its a lot different in spec to the pic of what was raced.
Reps of racebikes are not hard to build if you can find the parts, but who knows... the fact no one is claiming any real provenance makes me think its not what it at first sounds like it might be when you dig a bit deeper.

Just out of interest why does it having been own by Steve Hislop once make it more valuable? Was it even owned by him or just ridden? What would you do with the bike now?

Personally I don't see the added value in it, it isn't the same bike he rode, it is similar but has had many things changed since, that alone to me makes it no different to a home built replica. It would be different if Steve was actually selling the bike. I once bought a bike off Jamie Witham, paid £2500 for it, never even mentioned who I'd bought it off when I sold it.

Some people see the price of everything and the value of nothing. I don’t see that it has any more intrinsic value than any other bike. Yes if it was say his bsb winning bike I get but value by tenuous association not so much. Having said all that I think the value is comparable to other tz’s so not over priced.

yes it is the black yellow roberts esque paint scheme bike that id seen. to me a nigh on 40 year old race bike will have had so many changes over the years that they may appear compltely different, that said it would be fairly easy to replicate and pass off as something it isnt. i dont think the name attached should add a premium without some sort of race history/results. the fact it may have been owned or even built for hizzy to ride is negligable. that said, its priced well for a tz. thing is, its not a tz and for it to be a cooking f2 bike it should have the usual tz bits incluiding gearbox/clutch/ignition/barrels ect centred around lc cases. it appears to be running lc barrels and the clutch cover confuses me a bit. is it a wet clutch with a tz casing/water pump and a home made outer cover? i still dont think the price is a million miles over were it should be if its a sorted bike with the right bits. would definitly like to hear an indepth description of what its about though.
