If you buy a frame with NOVA papers what is the routine. Do you just send them away with the relevant fee and the DVLA send you a V5 back?
Cheers

Hi
You will need some form of dating letter either from the manufacturer or an approved body if there is no non UK reg doc
Ideally some sort of receipt too as twice now when registering a bike with no reg doc they have initially rejected it as I had no proof of ownership
A receipt from the seller should be enough
Send it all off with a v55/5 and an mot/mot exemption and a covering letter along with the ID stuff required

Also it really needs to be a built up bike
They are inspecting more these days, you used to be able to chance it on a frame

Even my KE125 which I had an old style UK V5 for needed pictures of it it as an assembled bike, before they would issue a new V5.

As Steve says you will need to build up bike to get a dating letter and even if it is over forty years old I would get an MOT as this may avoid the bike inspection.

Ok, seems it's not a as straight forward as I thought. I have enough parts or most of to build a bike left over from my last build, I just need a frame. Been looknjg for quite a while to no avail. Just thought I'd see how much hassle a frame with NOVA papers was.

Mark Cordwell had a full kit on ebay last week painted for £1400. If I can get a frame then I'd get a set of that, however ,finding a frame at a price I can afford or finding a frame in general is the issue.

Ooft, a bag of sand for a non registered import 😱
Thought that would be UK v5 money
Supply and demand I suppose

Hi Andy I'm just needing the frame, (got an engine) but it's the uncertanty of the registering process I'm more concerned about. If it was just a question of sending off the NOVA with whatever other paperwork is required then I'd give it a go. However, having a built up bike inspected is not a problem but this is not going to be an overninght build, more than likely going to take me a year plus by which time I'm sure legislation will have changed and it will be even more complicated. If this had a V5 then I'd sell my spare engine and buy it. Thanks for taking the time to look. Cheers Paul

I learnt very recently ( inspection last Thursday on a friends LC) that you don’t have to have a bike fully built up to pass an inspection… just significant substantial parts assembled or something like that was the requirement… of course it’s imperative that ‘you took it apart to have the frame painted’ as building a bike from parts is DVLA red flag… but it does mean that applying way in advance of being ready to get out on the road isn’t the risk I perceived it to be.

For the built up bike situation, you could take the reg plate off a built up bike and photograph the bike, then take some close ups of your new frames number, put some cables and wires around it, as if its on the bike.

Yes fine in theory but what if DVLA want a visual inspection then your stuffed 🤔 Get a frame and build up bike does not take long you can always do the 'nova 'yourself it's not that hard ! I mean I did one and I'm thick!!😂

"Significant substancial parts" is very subjective. Do you know what your mate had built up? I could quite easily knock up a rolling chassis with engine, pipes, clocks, brakes with some associated electrics. Engine cases would be empty but would look the part.
