Got a letter from the DVLA telling me I have until February to renew mine. Online it's £14, at the Post Office it's £21. To do it online you need a valid passport. Nope. Local PO don't do it and they know of none that actually do. Anyone else encounter this amazingly stupid process?

Just renewed mine in my local PO. The booth they once had for renewals has been ripped out and now they just use a phone and take your picture..... its much faster!

DVLA had intended ending their services being available at Post Offices from the end of March 2024, they would prefer everyone transact online so they wouldn't have to pay the Post Office for their services.
Thankfully, they've seen sense and renewed the contract with the PO, but only for one year with an option to extend this for a further 2 years. It seems fairly sure that at some point in the not too distant future DVLA services at the PO will end, but at this point, they came under tremendous pressure as an estimated 6 million people (possibly the majority of which fall into the "elderly" bracket and don't use computers) still use PO services for DVLA transactions.

My partner renewed her licence last week at the Post Office with no problem. She doesn't have a current passport and mine has expired, so when I need to renew I will have to either renew my passport and then apply for a licence renewal or go the same route.

I've still got the A4 size original paper one.i don't have any photo id and not starting now It's one of the only things left from days gone by. , I don't like getting it out for car hire even, they used to fold it any which way. I fear one day I will lose it if I move 😞.

I got a feeling that even if you don’t move. It’ll be replaced when you’re 70? Maybe I’m wrong there. My dad at 85 just had to renew his and he’s lost all his entitlements except for the car
