Would like to modify the reed valve block by fitting carbon fibre reeds can anyone please suggest the thickness of the carbon fibre replacement .5mm or 1mm.
Many thanks

its not just the thickness but the modulus of the carbon material, even which way the weave goes affects the stiffness and how they work, its not a straight forward thing, you'd be as well just buying some carbon reeds if that's what you want as it won't work out much more expensive than buying carbon sheet and then cutting your own, plus then testing it all

Yes you are correct, as I intend to remove the centre rib on the reed block and fit a one piece carbon sheet as per some of the Yamaha YZ80 models.
Thank you for you reply

+1 for keeping it simple….Norbo does have some single and twin petal carbon reeds here in his shop … It’s a fascinating topic but any type of DIY attempt is a stab in the dark that’s unlikely to work any better than the standard steel reeds.

Agreed, there are lots of reeds out there. TDR in the USA does different thicknesses etc. Maybe he can explain the choices?

Thanks Guys, think I will just keep the standard reeds, was looking at V Force reed blocks but all appear to need serious mods to fit

Thanks Guys, think I will just keep the standard reeds, was looking at V Force reed blocks but all appear to need serious mods to fit Philip If you do a search on here others include me have fitted the V Force 3 reeds that fit the KH100 Straight fit without the need to open up the barrel inlet tract, and the only thing you need to do is open up the stud holes to 9mm as the Kwak stud positions is very slightly different. Best wishes Al

V384a are the ones Alan and myself have fitted. RM 100 or KX85 fitment. Cheap and seem to work well with only minor work to get them fitted right.

Took the centre rib out of the reed cages and fitted Kwasaki KX80 carbon fibre reeds. works quite well.
