Evening lads, I was pondering on getting the Vape ignition for my RZ250 build, considering I don't have a stator or rotor, so would have to get them, and get a CDI. Then the Vape looks like the way to go. But what to do about a pv controller. I see mention of the Zeeltronic controller, but then somewhat of a conundrum, if I went for the Zeeltronic ign and pv control instead of Vape, would I still need a CDI. Just trying to figure a way forward without duplicating functions. Whats the thinking out there?

Assuming your engine uses the same Vape unit as fitted to the YPVS 350, then I believe it needs a separate ignition such as the Zeeltronic or Ignitech anyway. That would also replace the CDI. I'd check with someone like Dave at Mutts Nutts as he sells all of the parts.

Have a little search on here as these have been talked about before.
Personally Ive only used Zeel and the PV control function is (usually) in the same box, ie combined PV/CDI unit.

A Zeeltronic PCDI10VT takes care of powervalve actuation and sparks, both are programmable too. I've fitted them to several bikes and am very happy with them.

Thanks for the advice. Does the Zeeltronic have its own generator/stator, or do I need to get one of them too?

No, it doesn't come with the stator.

Thanks for the advice. Does the Zeeltronic have its own generator/stator, or do I need to get one of them too? No, but Norbo sells the Electrax World ones which are brand new, not rewound/re-conditioned/re-manufactured and of course, aren't maybe 40 years old like used Yamaha ones.

A cheaper option is to get an Adjustable stator plate for a banshee (about £35 off eBay), one of Norbo's DC stators with pickup for £50 which only have the charge coils on, then find a YPVS rotor(flywheel). That sorts the generation side and then use an Ignitech ignition unit.
This is a good option as most other options have stator coils with extra windings for the ignition system, which are not needed.
