I bought this bikini cowl as a complete set. ie. Came with bracket and cowl and was all bolted together.
But, now after a refurb Ive fitted it to the bike it not clearing the headlight as I expected. The headlight seems too high, even when aimed down.
The headlight is a brand new bowl and a used headlight from my spares. I believe its an LC2 unit as its different to the LC etc.
I did re revit the hinge bracket back on the cowl as Id taken it off for paint and looking at the witness marks I deduced it was fitted inside the cowl. It looks like i could redo it on the outside and it would lift the cowl up enough to centralise the headlight more, but... I want to do it right, obviously.
Any help from those who have done an LC greatly received... it not my fave model lol
Can do pics if people need to see stuff.

Would it mount differently if the bottom hinge was the other way round? Can't remember how the pin section has been formed.

Would it mount differently if the bottom hinge was the other way round? Can't remember how the pin section has been formed. Good question, but no... tis flat with the pin section in the middle. I was thinking if re rivited it on the outside of the cowl it would push the cowl up, but only by the width of the plastic, so about 1mm... hmm Have I missed some sort of adjustment here Im wondering? The cowl hinge is fixed on the bracket and so are the headlight mounts and the bowl has '-' marks to match the same marks on the bracket, which ive aligned. Bit weird it doesnt all line up, it wasnt too bashed up when i got it so I assumed it would go back square lol

Is the cage/mounting bracket bent I wonder ? My first RD was an LC2 back in '89 . The headlight and cowl were flapping around cos the cage was broken/bent and welded up . I got a new cage for 18 Irish pounds from Yamaha , one of those rare pleasant surprises when buying new parts . I wonder how much one would cost now ??

The brackets are prone to get bent. I bought a few of them trying to find a straight one. They all looked perfect in the ebay pics but never actually lined up properly. Got one eventually but they are silly money.

Agree, there's a lot of force going through a thin bracket during a crash.

It took me ages to fettle the bracket, nose cone and headlight to get it all aligned. Was a nightmare but got it in the end. Good luck with it.

It didnt look bent and I didnt need to straighten anything... until now lol!

Agreed. The lower mount must be right, so its the arms for the headlight that must be out. I did notice that the bolt holes for the bracket to cowl are elongated, so maybe its expected the bracket wont fit as expected lol Ive powdercoated this bracket, but I do have a good selection of rubber hammers.

Thanks to all who've posted and messaged. Help from the group of folk whove been there, done that and got the postcard is what we all love about this forum. So, It looks like its bent... ahh well, not that much of a surprise i guess. I should have tested it off the bike first. Its always the bit you dont touch and the DPO you trust that comes back to bite you. I tell people this all the time... and here I am doing it haha. I did wonder if Id done something wrong, its my first LC2 so its a bit new to me. At least Im still learning... its nice actually, its often me offering the help so its nice to be reminded how great it is when you ask a question (even if you do it poorly and miss a '2') and your mates all help you out. Superb!

Sorry, never had a chance to post before now
Yes I've seen a few bent and struggle to get them on
How is the fit around the clocks when there is no headlight fitted?
Reason I ask is that the clock bracket mount point is usually OK. As has been said it's the 2 mount points or the headlight ear brackets that are usually out
Also, do you have another fairing? Could the bottom section have been distorted? Just asking due to the heat you have there and poor storage may have reshaped the actual fairing

Just asking due to the heat you have there and poor storage may have reshaped the actual fairing Steve Im pretty sure it fits the clocks ok, but good thing to check. Ta. Sadly this is the only one that i have of these, I could probably borrow one tho... but i doubt its distorted, it looks fine (the headlight hole is round) and its not *that* hot here lol Also it would have had to shrink by say 5mm, that seems unlikely not to be noticed around the headlight hole. before I whip the headlight off, I'll try fitting it around the headlight to check that... I figure that'll also tell me if the lower bracket or the upper brackets (or both) dont line up. If both then its the headlight 'arms' etc.
