Itβs the baines racing frame kit. They are a big name in classic dukes. They designed and built a frame kit that takes a more modern belt motor (think any of the 900-1100 air cooled engines) but to recreate the earlier 900ss which had a bevel drive motor not a belt drive (for the cams). They usually sell for Β£10-12 k as they are pretty sought after.

Baines have been around for a while now and a friend of mine has his 748R serviced by them. Not the cheapest but they know their job and are one of the more independent service providers in the UK.

Ducati's overpriced ? overrated ?ππ€£π Yes they are expensive to both buy and run, but they are unique both in sound and the way they ride and handle. By comparison I have three Ducati's and only one LC. Ducati's also tend to hold their price better than some Japanese bikes do in general and if you get a rare or unusual model it will hold its price well over the years. I have a 1999 748SPS that when new was a staggering Β£12,250 but was one of only 100 imported into the country in that year, there are not too many left now which adds to the rarity of these models now. Looking at the price of spares for some of these older bikes they compare quite favourably with some of the very high prices being asked for genuine old stock rare LC parts.

Yep appreciate the looks and sound of a Ducati, had a 996 and a monster just not for me compared to the jap stuff, certainly don't handle any better comparing a R1 to a 996 of the same vintage, R1 better bike especially for club racing. This is my humble always skint opinion

Appreciate both sides for me jap fours do nothing anymore, Iβve owned 851/900ss/1100 multistrada/1000 sport classic and a 1200 monster. I love my twins also owned r nine t, guzzi 1100 sport, 1150gs, buell 1200 etc not had a jap 4 for over 20 years now. Twins are an acquired taste but there is room for all. Personally I prefer above all just for hacking about small strokers. Bigger bikes for me now are just to serious.

Is that really a Baines Imola frame and not just a 900ss with a rear hoop for the seat? I thought they were twin shock and had a much more classic look? No expert on these though, could all be tosh! Edit: I messaged the chap and it is indeed a stock frame, made to look like a Baines Rep. Seemed pleasant enough

Am I the only one who finds this a funny gangly looking bike? Maybe the accident damage didnt help its looks? hmm.. Dont get me wrong, Ive mentioned a good few times about how I'd love a '916 etc', So Im good with the idea of a Ducati... but im not seeing the attraction of this insect like conveyance. sorry :/ Im with Veg tho... I dont trust myself on racy 4 strokes nowadays. I'll stick with motards (also often very ugly if im honest) and of course LC/YPVSs. (heathen that I am... as just proven above lol )

Had great times on all of them, won a few trophies racing the F1, and the 900SS was my dream bike from before I had my licence. But the LC2 brought back the best memories and my current 4LO still makes new and fun memories. In the past year I have done 4 or 5 times the mileage on my 4LO than on my Fazer thou, hacking about with mates on strokers, just like I did back in the mid 80's. Brilliant! I saw a lovely bevel drive 900SS at Box Hill this year, just like my old one and whilst I admired it and remembered my times with one, I was more than happy to jump on Elsie and ride home.

There's more to Ducati than twin pots nowadays. My SFV4S feels like a chunky LC with >200bhp & I love it! 25th June 22 by KTM Marky, on Flickr

Agreed, the air-cooled Ducati twins have a certain feel to them which is quite addictive. I had most flavours of Sport Classic variants, including this one at del mileage.

If Iβm honest Iβm not sure if Iβm a Ducati fan or a Massimo Tamburini fan ! But maybe owning a 748S and a Mitto MK2 is the clue..π

When I purchased my 998 from New the V twins were the only models available as sports bikes. The first time I came across any V4 was an Aprilia RSV4, and that was in 2009 at a track event in Almeria in Spain. I think it was one of the first in the UK and it had been treated to many carbon parts and a very nice Akrapovic titanium exhaust.
