Possibly the most common hybrid LC is RGV 250 running gear and a 350 YPVS engine? Probably because it looks so right IMO.
Another popular hybrid is a 350 YPVS engine in a Mito frame.
I’ve seen a few TZR frames with 350 YPVS engines too.
What I can’t remember seeing is a 350 YPVS engine in an RGV 250 frame?
Anyone got any pictures?

I started one of these 25 years ago, the main problem i came across is that the 350 YPS engine is longer so after initially making a subframe to mount the engine and taking it to Derek Huxley to get the exhaust modified he told me that he would need to cut and reweld the RGV frame to get the engine further back to stop them hitting the front wheel under full breaking. I'm sure someone must have done it by now but just at that time i got offer a 1 month old GSXR750SRAD at silly cheap money so purchased that and and sold the RGV rolling chassis on.

Ah yes, this has shaken a few grey cells back.
Not very common though. Probably the same as some TZR conversations where the frame is too short to mount the engine far enough back.

Sure there was a KR1 with a Ypvs? In fact I’m sure I saw it at Dave’s place mega big bore motor 100 bhp plus?

My personal affiliation to the 350 YPVS lump is twofold. Both its simplicity, and the fact that @ 100cc more than its successors (due primarily IMO to race class categories) it’s a relatively reliable engine.
Certainly it’s enough power to have fun on without overstepping it.
Frame design has/did come on though.

I used to make an offset sprocket to suit RS250 Aprilia with a ypvs motor which is practically an rg250, if I remember the sprocket was about 28mm offset which seemed mad to me but hey. TDR250's with a powervalve are very rare, so are TDR250's which are epic as they are so probably better left like that.

Didn't Botty do a Tdr with a 350Pv engine too ? Pretty sure I've got a Practical Sportsbike mag with it in. And I think Paul Beaumont had a Kr1 or S with a Pv engine - Readers special in Performance Bikes. Got that in the shed too I think

I've done a few different configurations, Veg is right, I did a KR1S with a 496cc engine in it pushing 116bhp, also done several Aprilia RS250's with a 421 engines, a Mito with various engines (350, 385 and 421, 465cc's), a Kawasaki ZXR400 with a 421 in it, an FZR400 with a 392cc in it, loads of LC's with PV motors in
A mate of mine has several TDR's with different size PV motors in, all great fun to ride
Not done any honda conversions though

If I was 35 years younger I’d have loved a YPVS 421 motor in a 3TJ frame. Need a more sedate riding position now, and less on/off power delivery. Jon

The "Fzrd" I bought was an early Fzr400 with an Lc engine fitted. With some proper engineering, it would make a great hybrid. Plenty of room under the tank for Pv gubbins if that's what you wanted to fit. The beauty of these frames for bigger bikes means it's easier to get smaller engines in and lined up than the other way round; 20220430_141928 by dusty miller, on Flickr
