I do like my wine, then I saw this... I see it's on sale. Probably as no bugger in their right mind would buy any. Even if it was free I'd have to think twice. Alex

I have seen him on a few US cooking shows, I'd agree he is attempting to branch out, how much are they charging for a bottle?

Didn’t Cliff Richard do something similar and then fail to pick his own wine out of a blind tasting on a TV food / wine show?

Several Smooth Jazz musicians in America own or are involved in wineries which brings them in some decent cash, examples are Brian Culbertson and Dave Koz. You probably haven't heard of them but they are both quite wealthy even apart from being involved in the wine business.

£15 aint expensive for a wine, some class wines can be had for that.....and for quite a bit less as well!! I'm a fan of Loire valley wines, especially Sancerre. Some good stuff from the new world....those Aussies are a class act I'm not pigeon holed by where they come from.................. but by the price !!

I do like OZ and South African reds. My fave at the mo is Yellow Tail Jammy Red Roo. About £7 a pop. I am not prepared to pay more than double because someone who's life work seems to be shouting into a microphone and promoting violence has bought a vineyard. Is rap spelled with a silent 'c'?

So nowt new there, and snoopy is a far better geezer than them ****s Jam shed is excellent value, and I rate it for those who dont like wine that much. Cant remember which red it was, but great for someone who dislikes a strong tannin

Is Clooney trying to be Richard Rawlings double? GYSOT! (yes he also has his own booze... a cinnamon tequila) Clooney’s Casamigos is fantastic stuff. The blanco is clean and grassy, just the way I like it. Cinnamon tequila sounds nasty. … Snoop’s 19 Crimes is pretty bad. It’s a blend of easy to grow grapes from CA’s Central Valley. Way too syrupy sweet, and without much character. No thank you.

How is this possible? Recently Tim sent me some tobacco he got in South Africa, cost maybe £7 for 50 grams. It's Dutch, so the tobacco comes from Virginia USA, sent to the Netherlands, then sent to SA. In Holland it's more expensive. Over here I smoke Drum. I know for a fact in Europe it's about £9 for 50 grams. Here it's about £30. To travel about 22 miles. Makes zero sense to me.
And on a smoking note our 'prime' minister (I have personal words to describe him) has decided we should ban tobacco. Let's see how that goes. Probably another nail in the Tory coffin.

ps I do love OZ wines Jon!

The obvious answer is taxes, but thats just part of the story. There is also a thing that we all see with Yam parts and that is a 'country multiplier', ie its what the local market will stand for an item. Thats what makes banshee parts cheap in the USA and RD parts exy in the UK/EU/Aus etc
Years ago the Brits needed to be convinced to drink wines from Aus over those from France which were seen as making you seem sophisticated lol Really, you'd think that would be a no brainer, i mean c'mon... Brits have loved Australia and hated France since before time, its a neighbours thing. (see what i did there lol)
Anyway, they priced the wine cheaply in the UK to get the sales and its never really gone up, the price was one of the things people liked it seems. Here its always been the local wines that dominate so no need to reduce the price to generate sales etc. The French wont let our champers be called that, so they have the market in that and its really exy, but for normal wine its local.
Interestingly, wine is often most expensive here at the winery that made it. Visit the cellar door and its eye wateringly exy and its much cheaper in the bottle shop (what we call an offy)... oh and they are vast shops, you'd be shocked, more like the ones round Calais. Here supermarkets dont sell booze, they are not licenced.
Ahh Drum, I remember it being smoked when i lived in Holland. Sadly for you I think the days of smoking are already numbered, youre already a ways down that slippery slope. Apparently our govt is watching the UK's stance on this like a hawk and NZ have already done it etc. I see the same thing here within a year. I wonder if booze will be next... hmm... probably not lol.
I will say that Im not a smoker myself being a cancer survivor (so far so good) so not really up on who smokes what, but from what ive seen its young people with vapes and older people (often Asian) with ciggies here. The middle group seems less fussed, probably cos theyre all at the gym lol

Only 1 in 10 of the adult population smoke in the Uk now. The non smoking thing is a good idea (I’m a smoker). I’d like to see vapes being banned next as they are just as unsafe as tabs. The smoking ban won’t effect smokers today it’s future generations and I’m all for it. There isn’t one positive for being a smoker but huge amounts of adverse effects. Alcohol on the other hand will be unlikely to ever be banned as it’s socially acceptable drives big revenue and the vast majority of the adult population drink. I’m in a tiny minority non drinking smoker 😁

Saw it today @ £5.50 so gave it another go. I will report back.

We are lucky to have a fantastic wine grape growing region about an hour SW of here in the Willamette Valley. A vintner from Napa CA came up here in the early '90's and fund it to be a perfect climate for Pinot Noir grapes. The wine industry has exploded here since, just as it did in the Napa Valley in the early '80's. Loads of fantastic wines available, but expensive at $20+/btl, so I usually reach for Spanish Tempranillo or Malbec, or NZ Sauv Blanc. I've a few friends an the wine industry, but here at home, I make hard apple cider, and keep bees. Biggest thing on my plate now is shifting the bumper crop of honey my bees produced this summer. 17gallons off two hives.

17 gallons from 2 hives? Way to go! But..... I've got to pull you on your choice of jar, 1lb squat honey jars are the correct ones to use.............. Sounds like a good season, been feast and famine around hear, but our colonies are ok for stores for the winter, just 4 frames taken off them this year. Get some mead on the go, I've got tomato wine on the go as well.
