Hi, My sons bought himself a project 350R with a seized engine, and I have been tasked with the engine rebuild. Took the top end off easy enough- probably too easy and looks like the cases have had water sitting inside seizing the crank solid but now I can’t remove the flywheel, can thread the puller in easy enough, but broke the first one! new one here but still not shifting. is it possible to split the cases with the flywheel on? Can you undo/remove the stator bolts so the cases come apart or have to cut the flywheel apart.

I had a similar issue and decided to sacrifice the flywheel as it looked a bit rough anyway. I got the broken puller welded to the flywheel. The heat helped and it came off.
You have to get the bolts out the stator to split the engine, which you can't do with the flywheel attached.

Angle grinder to cut the outer flywheel off the centre
The crank and most likely the rotor taper are most likely shagged

If you scrap the flywheel / crank it may be worth selling the original stator / cdi and upgrade to a Vape system as a decent upgrade rather than look around for an original flywheel ?

Seems the angle grinder out at the weekend then! Any idea of best way to cut it?

Try a blow-torch on the centre hub of the flywheel, then use the puller.

Tried that Rob, mapp gas torch but not for too long , thinking PO used loctite Cranked f**cked for defo but the stator will hold the cases together

Ive done this, I cut around the obvious holes to have less to cut.
I'd tried heat and all sorts first and ruined the stator and rotor and the crank end (it still couldnt come off) doing it, but i did get to use the cases and other parts.
Another thing to try is a big rattle gun. I did another with a mates SnapOn 1000NM (or something like that, I did just make that value up lol) unit. If doing this; DO NOT hold a spanner on the tool... and you might ruin the tool... you have been warned etc.

Hi, Not an RD engine, but, get your "High impact tool" ( metal mass ) out. :-) I had to remove a drive sproket from an almost 100 year old 2 stroke engine, heres how I did it. Steven.

If you can get a decent non-slip purchase on the flywheel extractor, maybe using a jubilee clip around the edge of the extractor bolt head you could try using an SDS drill if you have access to one.
I have used this idea a couple of times when removing the swinging arm bolt on Ducati 748/998 models which have a notoriously well-known habit of seizing in the frame and crankcases. For some reason Ducati chose not to lubricate the pivot bolt when the bikes were assembled at the factory.
Because the drill has a hammer action you might find that the constant blows against the extractor might cause the rotor to come loose, maybe even using heat at the same time. Just a thought.
