Hi everyone. Frustrating!!! Been chasing oil leaks . Over last few months I've changed the sprocket oil seal then gear change seal . I was still getting an oily chain and swinging arm. When it's on side stand and sits for a few weeks it drips on the exhaust and stand and makes a mess . Just had another look and it's coming from neutral switch cover plate . I took it off and some oil poured out . Is inside the cover supposed to be dry ? . Why is it leaking oil . Is it just the cover plate seal ? Thanks for help . It's a 350 31k ypvs

Yes there should be oil in there, its the gearbox
Either the seal needs replaced or the switch plate is cracked
Best change both. Get a mate to lean the bike over to the other side to stop the oil leaking

There is an "O" ring on the inside edge of the neutral switch cover that can perish, or be damaged if fitted without some lubricant. Oil will freely collect behind the cover as there is no other seal on the shift drum, and it sits in gearbox oil. The cover can also crack around the 3 screws if they are overtightened. Try a genuine Yam seal and use red rubber grease when fitting; 20190521_192540 by dusty miller, on Flickr Wen fitting, Lean the bike against a wall on it's right side and oil loss will not be a problem

And just an observation. The neutral switch has gone up over 3 quid in just over a year - bought one last June and it was £23.03, and the seal was £2.89. Rebuilds don't get any cheaper

They crack with ease. Just dont overtighten, and lube the seal - it sits into the crankcase a lot more easily with some grease on it
