I wanted to get the Forums ideas on Winter Storage to avoid rusty tanks etc.
Google tells me to store a bike with a metal tank full of E5 with a fuel stabaliser in it to prevent rust.
Would you also run the bike with the petrol tap off to drain the carbs so the seals are not effected by the ethanol in the fuel?
I will also be spraying all over with ACF50
All tips very welcome.

I drain my tank across winter now.

I usually take my tanks off and drain the fuel out, mix a pint of brake cleaner with a pint of 2 stroke oil, slosh it round and drain it out again, use what comes out in the next tank and so on, I leave them to stand with the fuel cap open so that any brake cleaner left evaporates off, leaves a thin film of 2 stroke oil on the inside walls of the tank, never had any rust in any tank I've done like this. Once the tank is off I drain the carbs down and squirt a bit of WD40 down as it runs out.

IT'S AUGUST 😳
Steve 😆
(Stick 50ml of 2 stroke oil in the tank with whatever fuel is left and swish around. Run carbs dry. Left mine for 6 years like that 🫣)

Never had a problem with some 2 stroke in the tank. Give it a swirl around. WD40 is fine for a bike left over winter, if you aren't using it. ACF50 is only really worth it if you intend to use / wash / expose it to salt etc.

Even when the bike is in use I stick some in every fill up to protect it

An old boy told me to bung the exhausts as depending on crank position the ports will be open allowing air/condensation into the cases?, he also recommended ‘fogging’ oil down the bores.

just ride it the odd dry day you get during winter... if not oil mix in the tank exhaust tips and airbox intake bunged up to keep the damp air outa the bores.
still more fun to ride it the odd time tho

I guess it’s what you mean by winter storage. If you were in the Northern parts of Canada and had 4-6 months winter, I understand your concerns. In the UK it’s probably 2-3 months maximum and I would suggest you need to do nothing. Don’t know your exact location but here in the mild South East it’s no problem getting out regularly during winter even if only for 30 mins. With global warming you may soon find you and the bike are overheating by February.

It's good to see most people are doing a similar thing. Personally I drain the tank and carbs, put a slug of 2-stroke oil in the tank and slosh it around with the remaining bit of petrol and put a teaspoon of oil down the plug holes and just crank it over one turn slowly. Oh yes and take the battery off.

I was advised to empty the fuel tank and spray a tin of GT85 into it.
