I think we've made some good improvements in certain areas.
I was looking at some old photos online the other week. St Georges Hall in Liverpool was completely black. All the soot from coal fires. The photo was from late 1950's if I recall.
It wasn't black on Friday night when I walked past it.

Absolutely made strides look at London and the smog they had. However when I go to London at least couple of times a month for work, whenever I return and blow my nose it’s full of black crap that I never get here in the countryside. I’m also a great believer in buying used, yes I run an Lc and a 5.0 v8 what I’m not doing is replacing it with a new vehicle that will contribute to pollution just from the manufacture. Same as Gary what you’re doing is keeping usable old vehicles on the road so they aren’t being replaced with new and actually you’re improving their oil burning efficiency. 😁👍 good mental gymnastics. Same way I won’t buy an electric vehicle but I would a hydrogen powered one.

Should have said so called experts Still how did they measure the temp 150,000 years ago? This explains some of it but it's pretty dry and I don't understand much of it. I work in a University physics research department, so I know how the scientific process works in general. The way you typically do this sort of thing is to get data (in this case by examining the contents of sources like ice cores from Antarctica and other sources that can be dated to that period), and make a computer "model" of how you think the atmosphere was then. To test it, you can use that model to make predictions and then gather data that supports or refutes these predictions. If the data agrees it adds weight to the accuracy of your model, if it doesn't, you adjust your model to take account of the results. Your model is never going to be 100% right, but as you add data you keep improving the model and you can be more and more confident that you can accurately do things like say what the climate was 110,000 years ago. When it comes to climate science, the modelling has been going on for many decades and is very good indeed, which is why no one except those with an agenda dispute it.

Apparently the Labour party are going to stop all licenses in the north sea preventing/limiting oil production. Chaos will ensue It's nothing compared to the chaos of a world heating up by 2.5 C. You don't' seem to comprehend how screwed we are if we keep using oil like we are now. So… what if we are heading into another ice age and these elitists have it all wrong? The former head of Greenpeace along with some very prominent climate scientists seem to be of this opinion.

Thats 50,000 years from now. We'll have destroyed ourselves long before then.

We are doomed. That's the truth of it. Humans are as I see it a virus. A virus destroys it's host regardless of the fact it'll also die. That is what humans are doing. We always wait until its too late. Then we try or at least talk about trying to make changes. We are driven by greed. I'm a human too and I have kids and grandkids but as I see it we are a virus on this planet and we will ultimately destroy ourselves. The really frustrating thing is that it doesn't have to be like this. Yes, it's too late to stop climate change because it's already happening and there is a lot more "baked in" which we can't stop. But we could try to make it less bad than it could be. Do you remember the hole in the ozone layer? That's pretty much fixed now because we took action. It's a genuine success! It is easy to get defeatist and give up, but it is possible to change. There are things governments could be doing to prevent the worst scenario happening, but at the moment, there's no will to do them. The current government not only seems to be hell bent on ignoring its climate responsibilities, but actively hostile to any policies to mitigate the upcoming problems. They seem to want to make our planet uninhabitable, which I find utterly baffling. It's hard not to get defeatist but we don't have to give up everything to keep the world habitable. It's possible to take action on a personal level. I reckon cycling to work rather than driving offsets taking the bike out for a spin (or it will do when it's actually on the road), so I don't feel bad about using it for fun. Cutting down on the amount of meat we eat helps, and we don't have to give it up entirely. I got a little second hand 125 scooter rather than a second car. That all knocked a few kgs off my carbon footprint, Honestly if you think we fixed the hole in the ozone layer; you are giving us far too much credit. It’s like the ice caps have been melting for almost 210,000 years since the asteroid created the Gulf of Mexico and now it’s our fault? Wow

All sorts of chemical nasties in the air and rivers.🥴

At least five major ice ages have occurred throughout Earth's history: the earliest was over 2 billion years ago, and the most recent one began approximately 3 million years ago and continues today (yes, we live in an ice age!). Currently, we are in a warm interglacial that began about 11,000 years ago. So, is the current warming our fault? Well, we certainly haven't helped, have we...

Ditto, from my educational experience I assume that we cannot ever get rid of the chlorine in the atmosphere it exists like all gases at a certain altitude, unless it binds with something else it is cumulative. Limiting cfc’s is a learned idea but it didn’t fix the hole in the ozone. The ozone holes are controlled by polar vortexes. Volcanic eruptions release more disrupting gases than we can make in our lifetimes, there have and will be for all of mankind tales of the world coming to an end. I’m not one to judge, we all need to get along no matter our beliefs so as long as we are comfortable with believing what we are told; then hopefully we will do what we need to do keep a peace of mind.

Mrs V has been hinting she wants air con fitting, I’ve said no but if the temperatures continue to rise ( look at southern Europe at the moment). I may have to rethink which then leads into increasing the problem. More energy use more pollution etc etc vicious circle.

Australians love white cars... certainly back in the day when AC wasnt always a given. If you think the old vinyl seats in your Dads old Marina were hard on your shorts covered legs in the 70s, imagine what it was like here lol One of the BL motorsport dept's bits of advice for racing the Spitfire was to paint the inside of the brake pistons white as it would reflect some of the heat from the pads... every little helps!

You can make this paint yourself from common non-toxic chemicals. The video is quite long, but it's really interesting.

A terrorist attack on a gas pipeline releasing massive quantities of the 3rd worst greenhouse gas and "they" are absolutely SILENT about this intentional act of eco-terrorism. Meanwhile "they" are telling us not to eat meat or dairy products because of cows farting methane...............
What gives? You would of thought this event would have outraged JSO?. Even the pixie is silent.
The whole lot of them eco zealots should be clamouring to bring those responsible to justice, if they were, I for one would take them a lot more seriously.....

Was that not the Russians? Who were widely condemned for doing it by almost everyone? Also in 2022? ? ? ?

Whoever this "they" is must have been the only people that were silent about it, it dominated real news and conspiracy story tellers also seemed to have a lot to say about it.

The Ruskies only had to turn a valve off. And after spending billions on the pipelines....they decided to blow them up. This must be true because the Biden administration said so. The conspiracy theorists mistakenly believe that 2 countries that now supply Germany with gas, were responsible for the bombing.
What do JSO think about 100% ethanol fueled cars like they have in Brazil? (I think its Brazil, but not sure)
