Well, today I was hoping to share the joys of my newly acquired 31K Hybrid but then I discovered that DVLA are not geared up for 40 year old vehicles that are MOT exempt but not UK Road Tax exempt yet! This is a very specific 1 year time window.
Apologies if this specific scenario has been discussed before and I am already familiar with the 41 year old road tax exemption rule.
So what happened Geoff?
1) I tried to tax my newly acquired 40 year old bike online with no MOT - No MOT found so I could not go any further online 2) I called the DVLA and got the same results with the automated service 3) I went to a Post Office, they couldn’t do it but said I should call VOSA - They are closed for the weekend!
I did find a V112 form online after but the PO did not mention this and they only gave me the VOSA option.
B%gger, F&ck, T*t, W@nk ☹️🤨

Did mine last month
Bike was 40 years old on 31/5
Took a V112 to the post office in my local Tesco, paid the tax fee and sorted

Main post office I tried didnt want to see the v112, just inputed the details on their pc and job done, it really depends on who you see on the other side of the counter, some know what they are doing, lots don't.
40 years old, mot free.
April after it's 40 , tax free.

lol, I went to a decent Post Office today and a member of staff knew exactly what to do. Total result I thought, well, until she said “oh no, you can’t pay with your phone Sir” and of course today was the day I was not carrying my wallet because I rode a bike to work. 🤪
Better luck tomorrow 🤞

I finally made it back to the Post Office after an unpleasant stint in the hospital and some recovery time (not bike related). All sorted now and the bike is taxed for a year, after which I will register the bike as a historic vehicle for road tax purposes as well.
As we all become seasoned veterans of the idiosyncrasies of MOT and Tax exemptions, the key for me was knowing what I needed to do when walking in to the Post Office armed with my log book and V112 (and the right payment method).👍

I did the same last weekend, my LC is now classed as historic and is now taxed after being on SORN. Just waiting for the return of V5.
I found it very easy to sort the issue out after having presented my V112 which was examined and then returned to me. I expected it to be harder than it was, luckily my bike is 41 years old.
