The damper rod inside will just be spinning with the screw in the bottom. You need to jam it with something. Even something like a broom handle maybe sanded to a bit of a rounded point is sometimes enough to hold it. A piece of round bar again ground to a rounded point, put on the floor and lower the fork leg onto it and apply pressure while you undo the screw in the bottom. I had the discussion recently about these screws being threadlocked from new and I'm pretty sure that the ones I've undone were. On my GSXR1100 the damper rod had a recessed hexagon in it and I found a brass electrical fitting that fitted it and fastened it to a T shaped tube, used it once and it's still hanging up in the garage somewhere. The LC's are just a round recess. I don't know about RD's.
