What higher powers though.
The IOM is self governing, can see the uptick to the island the races bring, plus all the other events it holds.
As said no one is forced to participate, and I think that's the only thing that will stop the TT, if riders themselves refuse to go.

Look at this another way. If you were 20 again and a good road/race rider and you were offered a ride at the TT would you go for it? I would. It's the longest standing bike race in the world and (I think) it will carry on for as long as it's allowed. And I don't mean the mortality rate, one day all internal combustion engines will be consigned to the dustbin and museums. And going back to being 20 again, didn't we all ride like the road WAS the TT course? Flat out everywhere and to hell with the consequences. We considered ourselves immortal. But then again look at John McG. 51 and still going for the win. If there is a biking hero it has to be that guy.

ps yes, it's late and I've had some wine...

You cannot make the TT safe, it's very nature of being run on public roads with all their associated hazards, is what make it the TT.
As has been said, the people who race it know the risks, they are not idiots, an idiot couldn't do it. What person, is in a position/has the right to decide whether an individual should or should not participate in any high risk sport because said individual is not capable of making that decision?
As human beings we have 'freedom of choice' (to varying degrees around the world) and that is worth so much, worth fighting for, indeed we have and we still do. Things are changing around the world but i for one do not relish the thought of the 'nanny state', all the more reason to keep the TT and all other high risk human activities.
Imagine if one day, the powers that be decide to ban the riding of motorcycles, as the people who do it are unfit to decide for themselves, after all it is more dangerous than driving a car, how would you feel?
Long live the TT and all road races and long live the human spirit!

More cracking racing today. Lady Luck shone on some but not others. I wonβt spoil it by mentioning results here.

One race day to go, been some great performances so far , and some disappointments, but that's the nature of the TT, test of rider and machine, never a forgone conclusion the bike will last the distance.
