Just curious as to what folks do on those occasions when you dont want to take your helmet with you once you've parked up somewhere. How do you secure your helmet to the bike? Would you ever use the helmet lock provided on the LC or is that too easy to break?

I guess it all depends on a risk assessment. I have to do them without thinking every day at work.
Bike run during the day with plenty of people around, maybe OK? Manchester overnight, maybe not?
I’m not singling out Manchester, by the way. Just because I heard a funny story once.
A bloke from Liverpool parked his car in Manchester once. A group of youths said “pound to look after your car mate”. He replied his dog in the car would make sure it was okay. To which the youths replied “puts fires out does it?”.
True story!

I can't imagine any scenario where I wouldn't take my lid with me. And if you do go somewhere and they say 'no lids' tell 'em what they can do with that idea.

Alex Visiting Moto GP at Silverstone, I either leave my helmet D Locked to the front wheel (with a bag over it in case it rains) Or pay a few £ and leave it in the Helmet and Bag park, along with my leathers and boots, so I can wear clothes to sit around in and shoes I can walk in. Otherwise, like you, my helmet comes with me.

Ahh... no, it comes with me. I used to live in Amsterdam when I was a yoof. Lock your bike with a helmet in the D lock etc and come back to the helmet having been used as a toilet with a turd in it, possibly a factor of where bikes were parked back then as it was pretty dingy. Lock em to the supplied helmet lock and find the lock still locked and the strap hanging from it and the helmet gone. A factor of so many young lands riding with helmets undone so not caring about latching them anyway.

I've been to the 'Dam many times in the past and I wouldn't leave anything, anywhere, especially around Dam Square. Though I went again a while ago and they have tidied that area up a lot i.e. they have shifted all the homeless and derelict people elsewhere and opened up a haagen dazs shop! They still had the metal 'pissoir' type toilets near the canals though.

Agree its not what it was... good and bad lol The galling thing about the 'snail' toilet was the amount comdoms in them on the floor... the smell in them usually would be a passion killer surely?! lol

I've got one of those Oxford helmet locks with that uses a wire and combination lock. It would be fairly easy to remove if someone wanted to, but I only use it when necessary, and have confidence in the surroundings I'm leaving the bike in. No problems to date.

Jon I'll have you know that 73% of cars stolen in Manchester are located in Liverpool 😮
