I can't get the site to work Tim. I tried looking at Tamiya only and I get all sorts of kits from other companies. Doing my head in. And there seems to be no cars or bikes listed but some pop up occasionally. Alex Loads of bikes and cars with 30 to 40% off eg the Italeri rg500 sheene is down from £70 to £42, tamiya bikes stupidly cheap loads of cars there are 1150 plastic kits in the sale you might have to look through all of them and each page starts with trains for some reason worth persevering with though.

And that's what I'm doing! Some of the bike kits are like £50 cheaper than on eBay. Startling.

I've started the Hasegawa GSXR-750 8 hour endurance racer. Tricky blighter this one. Instructions are all in Japanese and the colour codes seem all wrong compared to pics of the actual bike, so I'm doing it based on that. Also it suggests to fit all the cables after the model is built. Not doing that either!

Didn’t realise they were all in Japanese I’ve got some in English I’ll copy for you and text them. Colours? What do they refer to then to be wrong?

Thanks Tim but I think I've sussed it. Engine colours are wrong and I was having problems figuring out the body colour. Looks like gunmetal grey and red. Wheels are 100% white lol.

Yep! I've painted the engine matt black then a light coating of metallic grey. Looks stunning. Doing the wheels now. Another thing that surprises me are the chrome bits aren't chromed. Never come across that before but I have some spray paint... Alex

Best thing for chrome is alclad paints but you need an airbrush and compressor, I also use bare metal foil on the stanchions it is exactly that a metal foil with adhesive backing it’s a little tricky but the results are realistic.

Is that all? Has anyone thought of bulk buying these and selling them on eBay? Lets face it not many of us have the time or want to make an intricate model.

Replica of Wayne Gardner’s moriwaki kwack, re the Yamahas, I’ve done it before, bought a load of tamiya kits and sold them on Alec’s old website but after paying postage import duty etc it wasn’t worth my while, that’s why I wouldn’t do it again. Don’t mind doing it for mates 😁 but not to retail them far to much hassle.

I totally see where youre coming from Tim, they arent expensive enough to have any sizeable profit (ie get a good deal on a bunch, add a percentage and onsell for a sensible sale price) for the hassle of dealing with the ebay/PO/buyers in something like this sadly. you only have to have one or two losses or breakages and youd be going backwards etc. I also would only do this for mates.

Not all colours are right but, very nice to watch for those of us who havent made a model since we were kids...
I was amazed... so many products you need now... all i ever had was a little sister who's only job it was to hold the pin for the glue tube... she was often off on another planet and not paying attention, probably the fumes...

I'm slowly getting there with the GSXR. Wow this is a complex model. Another thing that surprises me is Hasagawa uses metal pins to secure the wheels and swingarm. An excellent idea and a vast improvement on the tiny screw method employed by Tamiya. I'll get some pics up ASAP.

I do it with the tamiya and other older kits. Cut brass tube then use mini bolts and nuts on the end far more realistic.

Got to ask Tim. Where do you get these tiny nuts and bolts and other 1/12th stuff from?

Alex do you use a round or flat paint brush? I use flat brushes for most painting now, it tends to be more equal in the paint layering and less likely to leave brush strokes.

All spray painted matey. For the bodywork I did a white gloss coat first, then red, then masked off the red bits and painted the grey. Just done the decals...
Alex
ps I have a selection of brushes and some work well with models
