Evening all,got a petrol tank as spare for lc,few pinholes in bottom rhs at front not on the seam, the petseal he put in has failed and fallen away from sides,so i managed to get most of it out , tried soaking in deox with a fish tank heater for 24hrs,all clear except for the bottom layer on tank, what i would like to do is remove the rest and get tank braized where i am presuming pin holes are,so any advice how to either get remainder of petseal out or re seal ,is possible to add petseal on top of old layer.ta

I was speaking to cupar bike paints a couple of years ago and they employ a guy full time removing old liners and relining tanks she didn’t say what they use though but im sure it has to be pristine before relining

I have a Scott tank that has a failed liner in it. Nothing will touch it. The ideal stuff is that chemical that used to be in Nitromors etc (methylene chloride), that's now banned. I tried soaking a flake I got out in every chemical people thought would touch it - nothing doing. I have taken my tank up to www.tankcareproducts.co.uk/ to be professionally sorted, as I just can't get the stuff to do it at home. I noticed that amongst the pile of tanks he has in the queue was a 31K tank.

Yes DCM is the stuff
I used to buy it off eBay as it was good for dipping bolts before going for plating
The trick is to find a supplier near to you. It is illegal to use for paint stripping but it appears it is still used for cleaning grp molds after use 😉

See if your local powder coater has an acid dip tank (most do) a soak in there will remove everything and take it back to bare metal.

Unfortunately,he had it painted after he petsealed it ,so now i have a pristine exterior with bottom interior petsealed,it's not actually leaking as bottom of tank is sealed it's just sides came away problem i have is i reckon fuel will start to get under the petseal that's still solid in bottom of tank.

There are places that can cut away the bottom of the tank and repair without damaging the paintwork, I did look into it but decided in the end to start again , Hartlepool radiators stripped mine completely and repaired and relined it I can’t remember the company I found sorry who could repair without damaging the paintwork but I would have thought it was possible to cut the bottom of tank out strip inside and replace bottom
