Just a quick question about narrowing a set of Renthal 758 bars. Most people say the take about an inch off?
My real question is has anyone done this with one of those copper pipe cutters?

Yea, I marked around the tube with a pipe cutter, just to score an accurate line, then cut with a hacksaw. Took an inch off each side.

No, doubt that. The bars are a lot thicker and tougher than soft copper tube. The cutter scored the anodised finish, and allowed an accurate cut with a hacksaw.

No it wont cut the bars, as Dusty says its very thick.
I also did the twirl with the cutter and then the hacksaw.
Its not hard at all to do, fear not.

You could always use a jubilee clip to cut against

I cut 8mm off each end with a hacksaw. Just as mentioned above I used a jubilee clip as a reference for filing the ends of the bars to get rid of the saw marks. I'm now going to fit some bar ends from a GPZ900r in the ends to try and kill the vibrations in the handle bars a little.

Mini grinder with cutting tool, that’s all I used. I took an inch off. Used two pieces of masking tape both sides with a slight gap.

Im still waiting for someone to have done this in a mill... Funny you should say that 😀 The guy I'm doing the LC for wants Renthals with the cross bar and they are wiiiiiide They will indeed be clamped onto the mill table and the ends cut down 😁 Steve

I fitted Renthals with a bar and without cutting down on my LC421, fitted fine. I did in the end remove the clamp... lol

Ditto, I have used 758 bars on my 4L0 with an inch off each end using a hacksaw and then filed smooth. 👍
