Meant to be warming up tomorrow so fingers xxd etc Alex Hi Alex I thought these smart meters communicate over the 4G mobile network back to the supplier and the Wi-Fi connection is just for the stand alone display you have? If it has a mobile Ariel maybe you could remove this (I know on my PV meter there is a small unit on top with a small antenna that is screwed into the meter to allow the meter to send back the generation figures for the FIT) so all that is lost is the connection to the mobile network so the meter would default to just recording unit used? and I think the gas work remain on as I cannot see how they would allow a meter to shut off on losing the mobile connection but at least the meter variable tariff function may be disabled due to loss of connectivity? Also if. you do this disconnect from the network, do it when you have a lower unit cost showing just in case the meter internally costs your unit at the loaded tariff if that make sense?

They work on the phone network, never gave them my WiFi code
As for variable tariff I don't think they can do that without you agreeing to it
Also they cannot charge more than your contract or the price cap
They can however charge you less at certain times or reward you for reduction
If you aren't in a contract then yes they can change things but can't go above the price cap per kw/h

Not got an aerial gizmo mate. Just tried to log in to my account and they are having 'technical difficulties'. Hardly inspires confidence. However today was a lot cheaper than yesterday, yet the hourly rate still fluctuates. Saying that lots of friends are getting bills 4 times what I'm paying. How the hell are the elderly/unemployed managing??

The hourly rate you are seeing is not down to the kwh cost changing, but your usage changing. Your fridge/freezer is not on all the time. It just comes on when required to keep the temperature at the set level. If your meter shows it, put in on the kwh for current usage display and you will see what you are using and when the usage goes up or down.
