Hi all,
Jumping the gun a bit but I had an hour or two to just potter in the garage yesterday, and came across a couple of sets of YPVS switchgear. They all need a refurb to look nice. I noticed though that the red switches had faded a bit. Has anyone any good ideas of how to bring them up?
I thought about a polishing mop and fine abrasive?

Hi Jon
I have tried that but unless the UV damage on mine was exceptionally deep it didn't go well
I ended up masking them and spraying them with red plasticote

Using heat, even if it goes well, it will be back as it was in 6 months to a year, and red/yellow plastics are the worst colours to bloom as its called, the best treatment "was" back to black as it was called, sadly not the same stuff as made today, but you had to re-apply that every 6 months or so too, the oils come out of the plastics causing the whitening, when you heat it the oils come up to the surface, but as said it doesn't last, and very easy to burn the plastic too, as demonstrated in the vid.
Better off looking for a newer donner switch and replace it I would think, has to be something similar from other Yams.

+1 for Plasticote. Works well and if on the switch the lettering is in white, that's easy to do too. Get a little pot of acrylic paint and fill in the letters, then when almost dry wipe off the surface with a wet wipe. Might need to do it a couple of times but they end up looking like new. Done this on an LC indicator switch to great effect.

Just wonder if a red permanent marker would help? Certainly, be an easy fix.

Not on a large surface as it leaves smear marks. And permanent isn't usually permanent. Tends to rub off after a short time. Ask anyone who's used a Sharpie lol.

I think it was Ken who was asking about this on the RDRZ500 forum the other week. Lots of yams used the same switches, try and find good ones from one of those and swap the bits perhaps.
