Glad to be here. We have great roads here in Santa Clarita and speed cameras don't exist and very few cops to bother with you. I'm restoring the 76 RD400 as a cafe racer style with aftermarket LED headlight / tail light etc and I have crafted a seat My wiring harness is a bit of a mess. Any good used ones availble? I'm also restoring the oil injection system. I have the carbs with the oil injection spigot but new Mikuni VM carbs would be better. What has everyone done for an upgrade and can the oil injection spigot be added Cheers Rob

I used Pwk28 Keihins on my 400e. A recognised upgrade for Ac's and Lc's, they can still fit with an airbox - well, certainly on Lc's anyway. Generic jets may need to be tweaked, but that will be the same with any aftermarket carbs you buy. Oil spigots can be fitted, no problem. I bought my carbs from Forum Guru "Muttsnuts", who added the spigots before posting to me. I then decided to fit billet inlets, and to save removing oil lines from the carbs everytime the carbs need to come off, Mutts fitted spigots to the inlets too, so I blanked off the carb fittings and the oil pipes went straight into the inlets; 20210403_160949 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20210905_103733 by dusty miller, on Flickr Those carbs are good for mid 70's bhp. I have seen oil spigots fitted to standard rubber reed blocks, but never done it so cant vouch for that. Dusty

Thank you for the info that helps. I like the idea of creating the manifold looks very clean. Because I like to engineer stuff I'm thinking about grafting on a Suzuki GT750 starter / gearing to a RD engine. Anybody ever tried to create a electric start RD?

Yes they did I forgot about that. If the RD200 rotor has the same taper as the RD400 then its likely feasible that you could adapt the Rotor / Magneto / Starter from the RD200

The Yam parts may be closer to start with. My question is why though ? Will add weight, and part of the Cafe build thinking is to reduce it - especially on an Ac which are pretty industrial to start with. Lc's were waay lighter due to a lot of parts being made from plastic, which ultimately contributed to a better power to weight ratio. You can get some trick, smaller kickstarts that look good, and a well set up Ac should start first or second kick usually. I would add a modern digital ignition if yours is a points model - there is something like a 2 kilo difference between a standard Cdi rotor and a Powerdynamo rotor - not sure what the points set up weighs but i doubt it will be as light as the Powerdyno, or offer the same performance as a modern ignition. Kickstart wise, I have a 3ma on my Cafe bike, and it's really neat; 20210608_092712 by dusty miller, on Flickr Dusty

The rotor off the RD200 is a massive heavy beast, it is a dual purpose item, its a dynamo, charges electric system when bike running and starts the engine when power reversed to the system, 25mm crank bearing inner for left side rd200, 25mm crank bearing inner for left rd400 bearing, so technically the crank should accept the rotor, the whole electrical system for the rd200 is different due to the dynamo, you would have to change the whole system, I don't think its a good idea, but its up to you, your bike your way
