My rather shabby LC tank has had a liner in it at some time and it's broken up inside. Any tips for getting it out?

Thanks Steve. The info on how to use it is pretty vague. I either have a load of sludge or broken bits in the tank or a brand new liner...odd. But I'll have a Google and see how to actually use it!

LOL! Easier to get rid of 'tan lines', than tanK lineRS... just sunbathe naked Anyway, jokes aside... Something like MEK will do it fast and cheaply. Its what painters use to clean their guns, dont breathe it in or get it on your skin tho. vile stuff.

Maybe your local powder coaters can dip it in an acid bath but of course this removes everything on the outside too...

Now there's a thought. An acid dip.
I did some research and yes Acetone will shift it, and very quickly. Local shop had a 1/4 litre bottle for £6.99. Woah. I think I'll give Jamie a bell and see what he says about giving it a bath...
Alex
ps a quick eBay look and acetone and MEK are equally expensive!

I saw and thanks Chris. But would a litre do it? If so it's worth a punt.

Have a look for a radiator or a car petrol tank dipping place near you online, i know here there are dedicated guys who do this work to remove sludge and old liners and then either reline or just hand back to you. I know my bike painter has the stuff to do this as they do tank repairs but there are also other out there who do car work etc.

Yep, I think I know who can do the job for me. It'll remove the paint and filler too but that's a good thing. I really need to see what's underneath, warts and all!

After I had tried doing my tank with a kit off ebay, which failed miserably I got in touch with Stan at Hartlepool radiators. He sorted it ,cleaned the old peeling ebay kit out and relined it.He travels from Hartlepool to pick tanks up. 07836596132

Kempston Radiators also do a brilliant job and for reasonable cash, if you are around Beds / Bucks etc.

The tank had some leaks and the paint was not good . I had the equipment to repair the tank and could also repaint it .

MEK or acetone, good start, yes MEK was in the original paint strippers and taken out due to it, like acetone, being carcinogenic, Toluene will do it too If you can get hold of it banned for similar reasons
Acid dip tank I'd question which acid, you may find you will have no tank left
Caustic agitated dip tank, at 65-70C yes definitely, make your own brew, 100gm of caustic flakes per litre of water, don't add it all in at once or it will explode mix in a bit at a time, add in some dishwasher powder or laundry powder as the detergent
Wear all the protective gear you can attach to yourself, hot caustic and the human body do not like each other
