I've got a filter on my electricity meter. It filters out any nuclear, gas and coal produced electricity, and only lets in wind produced electricity.... which is probably why we only have power for 2 hours a day and none when there is no wind. I feel a bit let down as I have personally planted many hundreds of trees..... And as for creating greener spaces why not bulldoze Westminster and plant some Larch?

I do hope you've planted those trees to burn later Steve?

It's mad how they can feed all that electricity from different types of generation into The National Grid then it knows which house to go to. Mind blowing!
Our Smart Meter got me into trouble. The other day I was working in the garage all day with my double twin compressor on most of the day. That's two twin cylinder pumps powered by 0.75kW motors. When the Mrs. came home she asked me if I'd been using something because the Smart Meter was way over the figure it usually shows at the end of a day. Darn it. The thing might have to accidentally drop into a bucket of water.
Obviously I denied having any idea why it was so high.
It's laughable that they are bragging about planting trees whilst builders are digging up crop fields and sticking a load of houses and a crematorium in them near us. OK not trees but green fields that could have been trees.
Where are those trees going to be? Them little 6 foot tall ones they plant on the grass verges of new housing estates that end up being snapped in half by scrotes before they are two years old?
On the brighter side a guy near us has bought a piece of land next to his house and planted a stack of trees on it. Not for any commercial reason but just because he can afford it and it's a good thing to do.

Looked at simply: They use diesel and petrol engined machines/vehicles to cut, process and transport these wood pellets from across the Atlantic then burn them in England and it's called 'green'? Even if the wood came from the UK it would take thousands of diesel powered lorry trips to bring it to Drax. Back in the 80's I spent two days working on my own fitting ducting in a small temporary building between two cooling towers at Drax. In those two days I never saw a single person from 8:30 until 4pm. It was one of the loneliest places I've ever worked. I could have been dead for 6/7 hours or more before anyone noticed.

Drax. Built close to massive supplies of coal (compressed aged wood) so not much effort needed to get it to the station.... not to mention the mining jobs...AND communities (Thatcher never gave a f**k so why should you....)) How many Kw can you get out of a ton of coal against how many Kw you get out of a ton of wood pulp imported from Canada? Which one is more efficient to burn? (In 2021 16.6m tones of wood burnt)
Hmmm.... I wonder why steam engines (traction engines ect) run on coal and not wood...... Don't you think it would make sense to capture C02 from burning coal??..... Or you could carry on listening to a Scandinavian pixie and clapping her with glee every time it opens it's mouth offering no alternatives....
Or we could follow the Eu and rely on Russia for ALL our power (Gas)
As Ian Dury once sang.... "There aint arf been some clever b*****ds"

And on a really happy note (not) I had the heating on yesterday for the first time in ages. SM read 97p and 20 minutes later said £1.25. Heating turned off.

The guy across the road will have his 'any old $hit he can find even if it's covered in paint or soaked in creosote and I don't give a $hit if the rancid fumes go across the road into my neighbours garden and house - burner' on soon. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well as 'Log Burner' but it's much more accurate.

Thats the issue I have round where i live, plenty of people burning the dog poo theyve been picking up i reckon, certainly smells like it. What irks me most is that its not when its 5 deg C, its when its 25 and they still think 'ohh the fire will nice n cosy...'... right, well thanks... my windows were open and now my house is full fumes and i cant breathe. Pious w#*#ers who think they are saving the planet but in fact are probably killing their neighbours. Sigh... They also dont like smokey two strokes and moan when they are run. double standards?!

Interesting on Drax
My father designed a lot of components for it, dust collectors and air heaters, it was coal fired back then
He used to make cardboard models of the equipment he designed to make sure they worked as designed, he then folded them up and took them over to show the construction people and answer any questions or make any design changes then give it to the factory to manufacture them.
Davidson & Co, Sirocco Works, Bridge End in Belfast
That would have been the late 60's as Drax started operating in 1974
He also did Isle of Grain and 3 in Germany as well, can't remember their names though

The whole log/wood burner thing is something that on the face of it sounds good but if you look deeper it's not maybe not so good. A lot of the guys at work used to make wood burning stoves for the garden and I would say "what's the point?" "oh we just like to watch wood burning" "OK then............" If I'm gonna burn wood I want to do it for a reason. We have a stove in the garden that I made. It's based on an Australian thing called an Ozpig. You can use it to cook on. Within five minutes the lump of 1/4" steel on the top is hot enough to cook on. We get logs from various places, my lad cut some trees down in his Mother in Laws garden and we sometimes just pick them up off the verges around here. We've not used the BBQ since I built this and I've made a second better one for the lad. If you can get logs for nothing, my eldest fells and trims trees as part of his job, then fine but if you have to buy them you'll quickly realise how many it burns. i have with our stove. You see a pile next to someones house and think yeah, that's two evenings worth.
