I've a couple of sets of hytech reeds, a set of boyesen dual stage and a set of carbon fibre reeds from Showe. I've found that none of them seal to the face of the reed block as good as the original metal ones. The carbon ones didnt fit flush straight from the packet no matter what way I orientated them.
A guy on FB with a 125lc big bore has tested the chinese v-force copies on a dyno against fibre reeds and they gave a good boost to the mid-range with no loss thoughout. His 125LC is possibly the highest BHP one about @ 36.3bhp, tuned and dynoed at Mick Abbey. It's a piece of art.

A word of advice when fitting fibre reeds, you normally bend the reed stops to open them up, but this can alter how the reed sits, I know this from trial and error, you have to be careful not to bend the stop too close to the little screws, otherwise the reeds will lift at the front and not seal correctly. You can also buy reed sheet in all thicknesses and cut your own reeds, Polini or Mallossi do them, and some are on ebay, this would allow you to remove the bridge on the reed cage and have a single reed using cut your own reed sheet.

The hytec reeds arrived along with a second hand good condition cage and so dismantled and cleaned it up thoroughtly filed any rough edges of the internals and shortend the 4 screws to be flush i put the stoppers in a soft vice and bent them by about 3 mm at a guess and fitted them with lock tight do we think there is more movement available on the stoppers i just did it and fitted them in the bike without seeing if i could bend them more. I have to agree the metals gave a great seal and a great trumpet noise compared to the new hytec ones with bairley a noise out of them but it starts and runs a tiny bit better i think. i read that the crank case pressure seals them when the bike is running... i have no idea really but it runs ok.
Cheers lads.

Cheers lads. I think about 3mm extra is about right. The engine will help seal them at over tick over, if they don't seal correctly they tend to make the engine really fluffy low down and cause tick over issues. If you are using used cages that had had the steel reeds fitted, they can leave a ridge in the rubber coating after time, then the aftermarket reeds never fit into the grooves the standard ones did, this can cause a bad seal too.
