Hi all. I have a 4L0 with standard pipes. The right hand pipe has split at a seam/weld almost around the entire circumference . The exhaust is in perfect condition apart from the split. Is Is weldable and if so, can anyone recommend someone near to me in Lincolnshire or someone that would accept and post via a courier? Gutted that my bike is off the road in this weather š

Anything is fixable. It may show some battle scars, but would be reasonable after repair. Have you got tie bars fitted under your engine, as they are supposed to reduce the risk of cracking? Also, have you got pics of the flanges, as there are 3 types of exhausts, and the first type were prone to cracking on bikes without tie bars? Contact Chris (sidney81) on here, as he is an excellent welder in your neck of the woods. rdlccrazy.proboards.com/user/6695

It is a non tie bar model so I suppose I should have expected it. This is the flange ...

The original 1980 exhausts have thin flanges and allow a fair bit of movement. Yamaha replaced them under warranty with the Blue dot (250) and Orange dot (350) thick flange exhausts to stop the cracking.

Sounds like a perfect excuse to get a set of expansion chambers on it

Sounds like a perfect excuse to get a set of expansion chambers on it I am in a very small minority but I just love the shape and colour of the original exhausts. I know a set of expansion Chambers make so much more sense but I really want to keep the originals.

Iām with you on the standard pipes look and sound. But the weight difference and ease of taking expansions on and off with the sleeves and springs swung it for me

Tig or Gas weld would sort that out no problems (It's only mild steel) . I'm in Linc's and would offer to do it but my Acetylene is on fumes and my usual "supplier" can't get any for the foreseeable..

Just a quick update. Chris very kindly offered to weld the exhaust for me (and i am sure he would have done a perfect job) but I really wanted somewhere local. I used a place in Lincoln called Keweld and am really happy with the job they did. If anyone needed welding work doing in the Lincoln area, I can highly recommend them.
