I always wanted a flying V but they rarely come up for sale and are stupidly expensive. Then I remembered a company called Gear4Music. I used to buy B stock guitars from them (when they were sensibly priced), restore them and give them a custom paint job then sell them on. Anyway I saw this... Yes please! It turned up and is stunning in translucent black and plays like a bass 5 times the price. Alex

Looks great Alex!
I’ve sold on most of my best gear (Harmony H78, ‘73 Jazz Bass, etc). Still got a Rickenbacker 360T, a MIM Fender Jazz Bass, and a pile of cheapo ‘60’s guitars.

They are better played! The other one was a pile of junk and was returned. Glarry (new name to me but some research said they were excellent guitars with great scope for upgrades. That one looked a LOT like a BC Rich Beast so I had to have it. Poorly made, and the neck was warped.)

A Rickenbacker?? Wow. Amazing looking things. Alex 360-6 Tuxedo. One of 200 made in 1986. A very rare guitar that actually belongs to my wife. She traded it for a crap Yamaha acoustic and $200 back in the mid '90's. All white (including the fretboard) with black hardware. Never seen another one like it anywhere.

How cool is that? They make basses too but £2.5k is a bit steep for me!

Have a look at Fazley guitars UK. I recently bought a Telecaster copy in a natural wood finish for £53 brand new and it plays fantastic straight from the box. Also bought a mandolin which is as good as something four times the price.

I do not doubt you but I have this "thing" about cheap guitars, I had a few in the past and they were bloomin awful, I (unfairly maybe) see them as stepping stones to the proper instrument, Fender, Gibson etc. Brainwashed as a kid probably. Wouldn't buy a Hongdu either but maybe that is an unfair comparison.

Fair point there. I bought that Glarry bass and it was piggin awful. But if you are new to guitars and just want something to learn on, cheap is an option. Especially if you find out you can't get on with it.
